South Orange County business owners and employees have a unique opportunity to shape the future of our region and the entire state.
On June 10, the California Redistricting Commission released draft boundaries for all of California’s legislative and Congressional seats. There will be new maps issued on July 14th, which will also be subject to public review and comment.
The South Orange County Regional Chamber encourages you to let your voice be heard during the redistricting process. It’s easy! Here’s how:
- First, review the maps. Follow the below links to the appropriate draft maps. The title of the maps is in parentheses:
- State Assembly(South Orange County)
- State Senate(San Diego-Orange County)
- Congressional (South Orange County and Orange County Coast)
- Board of Equalization(Orange-San Diego District)
Remember that the next round of maps issued on July 14th will likely be different than the first draft.
- Next, if you have comments regarding the shape, area, population, etc. of the district, reach out to the Commission using any of the following methods:
- Visit the “Comment” section of their website
- Call 1-866-356-5217
- Email votersfirstact@crc.ca.gov
A “Guide to Participation” is also available on the Commission’s website.
- Consider drafting and submitting your own maps that reflect how you want to be represented in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. This online tool will help you create electronic maps that account for the many dynamics of the process.
The Commission is required to approve new legislative boundaries by August 15 by a super majority vote – or 9 of 14 commissioners. Again, the South County Chamber encourages all those interested to participate.
