On Saturday, July 16, 2011 from noon to 4 PM, Mission Viejo / Saddleback Valley Elks Lodge No. 2444 (“Elks Lodge”) hosted a Sock Hop for 230 special kids, special adults and their caretakers. For this special sock hop, the Elks Lodge engaged the musical group Hi Hopes.
Hi Hopes is a highly-talented musical group, consisting entirely of persons with developmental disabilities who have entertained and inspired audiences for over thirty years. The group has performed in many concerts across the country, appearing on numerous television programs, and playing locally for various community and business events.
The “Special Guests” were served a hot lunch and lemonade by twenty four (24) Elks volunteers. But mostly, the guests came to dance and sing along with the light rock music of Hi Hopes. Guests danced by themselves, with each other and with the Elks volunteers.
The Mission Viejo / Saddleback Elks Lodge No. 2444, celebrating forty one (41) years of service to the Saddleback Valley communities, is one of ten lodges in the Orange Coast District of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) whose headquarters is in Chicago, Illinois. The BPOE is a charitable organization with a 143 year history of giving, “Elks Care, Elks Share.”
