Our Summer Sacramental Prep Session approaches…

A reminder, our parish policy is that any family seeking the Sacrament of Baptism, First Reconciliation or First Eucharist, Marriage, needs to have been a REGISTERED PARISHIONER for a minimum of THREE MONTHS prior to attending any Sacramental Prep Sessions and/or the setting of any Sacramental dates. (Thus, someone registering today would be attending the November Prep session, not the August session….followed by another call after the session to schedule a date for their child’s reception of Sacraments….not register and schedule at the same time.)

Our next Sacramental Preparation Session for families of children desiring First Reconciliation and First Eucharist here at Corpus Christi is scheduled for Saturday, August 27th at 2:00 p.m., concluding with the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Please note that participation at one of our quarterly Sacramental Prep Sessions prior to scheduling a First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is a parish requirement. You will receive your Sacramental Registration Form at the conclusion of the session. This policy is binding for ALL families, both those who have multiple children (who may have already received one or more First Eucharists, fresh attendance at the Sacramental Prep for each child is necessary) and for those approaching the Sacraments for the first time. Pre-registration is necessary (no drop-ins), please contact Susie Hays at 389-9008 to receive the necessary paperwork.

It is important to note that these Sacramental Preparation Sessions augment but DO NOT replace our parish policy of parents teaching their own children the essentials of our faith and introducing their own children to the person of Jesus Christ. These Prep Sessions are final steps to ensure that parental education has indeed been happening.

Our END-OF-SUMMER POPs CAMPING TRIP is next weekend!!! HEY DADs….remember all those plans to get away this summer; to head out to the local mountains or beaches and camp-out beneath the summer stars? Just in time to offset those pesky  summer park closings and recession cut-backs….Corpus Christi POPS (our parish outreach for dads with their kids) is offering an END-OF-SUMMER CAMPOUT right here on our parish lawn, Saturday, August 27th , overnight into Sunday morning, August 28th. You provide your own tent and sleep gear and Corpus Christi will take care of dinner and Sunday-morning breakfast. More info  and Registration Forms are available on the Concierge Shelves.

With the approach of a new school year, a reminder of our  POLICY CHANGE for those requesting proof of Registration/parish involvement….

Please note that Corpus Christi has made a policy change that will impact a small number of people. Most Catholic Schools require proof of Registration/participation within Catholic parishes. Long-time Registered/participating parishioners and those previously registered/participating in other parishes will not be impacted in any way. However, an unfortunate truth is that some people only Register so as to get their children into a particular school (sometimes even seeking a ‘Parish Discount!’)  but are not present nor financially supportive of our parish programs and efforts. Thus, in order to receive a Letter of Parish Verification/participation from Corpus Christi, families will need to have been Registered AND financially participating at Corpus Christi for a minimum of the recent calendar year. The year-long financial record needs to be verifiable through regular use of offertory/stewardship envelopes, credit card records, specific donations to parish programs via check, Pastoral Services Appeal Pledges, etc. This should not prove a hindrance to anyone newly arrived here in Aliso Viejo, as all Catholic Schools will accept a Letter of Verification/participation from their previous parishes in their former communities.

Corpus Christi Adult Faith Formation presents “20 Hot Potatoes Catholics are Afraid to Touch” a four week course exploring the social issues, theological mis-understandings and Catholic quirks that boggle the faithful and upset many in secular society.  From homosexuality to annulments, clerical celibacy to abortion and other controversial topics. The course will draw from modern catholic teaching, church history and tradition, Vatican II documents, modern scholarship and current scholastic resources. This engaging class will be taught by Shawn Wehan and will involve both lecture and small group sharing.  The class will take place on Monday evenings at 7pm and repeated Tuesday mornings at 10am:  August 22&23, 29&30, September 12&13, 19&20.

Please bring your non-perishable food items for South County Outreach Food Bank NEXT WEEKEND!!!

Sure, we’re biased…but we REALLY do have the BEST Youth Leaders in the Diocese!!!

Our congratulations are extended to the 32 HAVEN YOUTH LEADERS who completed this year’s Leadership Summit held at UCI. The four-day event provided them a priceless opportunity to grow in their leadership skills, their Catholic faith and most certainly their commitment to one another as friends and companions: Michael Arcemont,  Prisca Arroyo, Brody Barrett, Shannon Barrett, Nicholas Blackmore, Kelsea Cooper, Loraine Corona, Kathleen Donahue, Jessica Eisenbart, Emily Elkins, Molly Elkins, Austin Engelbrecht, Ryan Garner, Blake Gomez, Allison Kerins, Jason Kerins, Annemarie Kibbe, Haleigh Klem, Ayla Kumano, Natalie Kvochak, Bernard Macaya, Alexi Maggbuhat, Sierra Mazzarini, David Mickle, Matthew Mills, Miranda Mills, Nicholas Morrison, Brett Moshenko, Katelyn Nyberg, Caitlin Paine, Ryan Quinones, TJ Yacap. Given the economic turmoil all around us, I am extremely grateful to our 20 parish patrons who generously contributed $7,725.00 in sponsorships! THANK YOU! FKB

Our Corpus Christi Book Club invites you to enjoy Lisa See’s latest book, Dreams of Joy. Join us for discussion on Monday, September 12, 7:00 PM, meeting room 4.  We look forward to welcoming you then!

A notice from the Diocese of Orange: Carlos Martinez, also known as Jesus Carlos Martinez Santos, left active priestly ministry in the Diocese of Orange in 1997. For the past several years he has been leading services at Capilla Santa Teresita in Anaheim, which has no connection with the Diocese of Orange. On several occasions, Bishop Brown sent out notices to the faithful informing them that Carlos Martinez is not in good standing. The Congregation for the Clergy in Rome recently decreed that Carlos Martinez has lost the clerical state. This means he is no longer recognized as a priest. He is not authorized to perform any duties reserved to a priest. The Roman Catholic faithful are once again reminded that they should attend a Roman Catholic Church for Mass, baptisms, weddings, quinceaneras and religious education.

September 3rd, 2011 Men’s First Saturday Men’s Fellowship Meeting The first Saturday in September, September 3rd, may be the best time for you to join the First Saturday Men’s Fellowship for their monthly breakfast meeting starting at 7:30 a.m. (or 6 a.m. for early risers who want to help prepare the food).   There may be men in the parish that you have not met with whom you good form a bond of fellowship and friendship.   There may be questions you have about your own spirituality that other men from the parish may be able to clarify and answer for you.   You may just want a cup of coffee and a good hot breakfast.   May we see you there?   You may have questions, and if you do, please contact Brian Brassil at misterb50@gmail.com or 949/212-5994.

Faith…Initiative…Starts at…Home = F.I.S.H.

What is F.I.S.H.? * As Catholic-Christian Parents we want to address and hand down to our children the foundational issues, principles and values of our faith, scripture, theology, spirituality and the understanding of our rituals, especially our liturgical celebration, the Mass. * F.I.S.H. enables parents to respond to the Catholic Church’s role for parents in the religious formation of children as both a privilege and an obligation., When you presented your children for Baptism, you, along with their godparents were reminded that you have that privilege and responsibility of training your children in the practice of the faith. * F.I.S.H. is a dynamic process with which you and your children can discover the richness of Catholicism through ritual celebrations and traditions.

How does F.I.S.H. work? *It confirms your registration as a parishioner of Corpus Christi. Register for F.I.S.H. either online, parish office of by mail.  * Families are encouraged to form small cluster groups ‘Intergenerational Households of Faith’ groupings of three (3) families per cluster is suggested. The clusters are encouraged to meet twice a month, for two hours per gathering. This model will provide ‘small Christian communities’ within our greater Corpus Christi faith community. * F.I.S.H. families will gather seven (7) times for large family sessions throughout the year. The sessions will begin with the celebration of Saturday evening Mass, followed by a family-style meal, live music, thematic presentations and various activities for the entire family. * F.I.S.H. includes a lectionary-based model. In conjunction with the cluster gatherings and large group sessions your family will be given the tools and information to share the scriptures that are proclaimed at Mass. This will enable and foster a deeper and more profound understanding and application of scripture for Catholic-Christian family life with your children. * The NEW revised family faith formation process will provide comprehensive catechesis (religious instruction) and full support for parents to share their faith with their children. Children at each grade level will be exploring, in age-appropriate ways, the basic teachings of the Catholic faith. The multiple components are family based, not a classroom model and will integrate faith into everyday life.

F.I.S.H. has three objectives: 1. To provide support to parents in the ongoing faith formation and structured development of their children. F.I.S.H. is available to families of elementary age children, kindergarten thru 5th, both public and private school students. 2. To help families strengthen and deepen their relationship with Jesus through earning and faith sharing. 3. To provide family sessions that will enable and encourage families to recognize, ritualize and celebrate the many ways that God is working I their lives.

F.I.S.H costs $150 for the ENTIRE FAMILY per year (not considered an IRS charitable donation.) Fee includes all printed materials and is inclusive of the seven large group sessions (no rebates or partial payments.) Families will be asked to contribute a salad or dessert to each family-style meal.

*F.I.S.H Registration and recorded participation within F.I.S.H. is now a required component for reception of First Eucharist and First Reconciliation.
