February 12, from 12-3 p.m., Kaleidoscope will host “A Tribute to our Nation’s Heroes and Their Families”

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – Kaleidoscope Entertainment Center has kicked off its “Purple Hearts Campaign” to run through Valentine’s Day, benefiting Freedom Is Not Free a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting wounded service members and their families, and the families of the fallen.

Participating Kaleidoscope businesses will raise money through Purple Heart Donation Cards, which will be displayed in windows.  Kaleidoscope and Freedom Is Not Free have also partnered through Facebook.  For every fan that “likes” Kaleidoscope, $1.00 will be donated to Freedom Is Not Free. Medical Uniforms will donate twenty percent of all purple uniforms that are sold from February 1 – 14 to Freedom Is Not Free.

On Sunday, February 12, from 12-3 p.m., Kaleidoscope will host “A Tribute to our Nation’s Heroes and Their Families”.  The event will kick off with our National Anthem to be performed by the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band , Miramar, Caifornia.  Other performances will include synchronized ice-skating numbers by Ice’Kateers of Anaheim, dance performances from Cal Elite’s Classical Contemporary Ballet Company, and a musical patriotic performance from OCHSA Music Theatre soloists and guitarist.

 

Jay Kopelman, Freedom Is Not Free board member, retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel, Iraq veteran, and bestselling author of From Baghdad With Love, will speak and sign books.   “Raising awareness of the sacrifices and valor of our service men and women has always been a passion of mine,” said John Winslow, Executive Director of Freedom Is Not Free.  “Valentine’s season is about remembering those we love and appreciate in our lives.  This Valentine’s, Freedom Is Not Free and Kaleidoscope teamed up to let them know that America does care and appreciates all they have sacrificed.”

 

Newly elected Mayor, Frank Ury and Colby Durnin, CEO of Sentinel Development, will also speak at the Tribute.

 

Petra Jewelers, located at Kaleidoscope, has designed three purple-heart pendants that will be sold at the February 12 event, with twenty percent of the proceeds donated to Freedom Is Not Free Twenty percent of the day’s ice-skating sales will be donated to Freedom Is Not Free.  This will be the last weekend for patrons to enjoy Kaleidoscope’s Eco-Friendly Iceless Skating Rink, brought in for public enjoyment throughout the holiday season.

 

All military personnel with proper ID who attend the February 12th event will be offered the following discounts at Kaleidoscope:

Islands Restaurant Mission Viejo will be proudly serving food to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band, performing at the Tribute.

 

Freedom Is Not Free makes grants to Purple-Heart recipients and their families to meet their immediate financial needs, including but not limited to, the expenses associated with medical care, travel, home modification, and paying bills.  The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who are wounded in combat in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action.

 

Kaleidoscope, located at 27741 Crown Valley Parkway in Mission Viejo, was purchased in June 2010 by Westport Capital Partners, LLC.  Swensen’s Grill & Ice Cream scheduled to open this Spring, and LA Fitness, scheduled to open in May 2012, are both currently under construction.  Kaleidoscope is in the process of undergoing aesthetic improvements and enhancements including new landscape, furniture, fire pits, signage and more.  “We continue to make progress toward establishing Kaleidoscope as Southern California’s premier entertainment complex, and the best is yet to come,” said Janine Padia, Director of Sentinel Property Services.
