In an effort to benefit the environment and community as a whole, Mayor Donald Garcia will square off with mayors from across Southern California to see whose city can be the most “water wise.” The Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, which the Wyland Foundation has organized across Southern California, involves residents taking online pledges to reduce water waste and pollution. The pledge drive, which runs from March 30 through April 30, not only helps cities meet conservation goals, it gives residents who make pledges at www.mywaterpledge.com/national a chance to win a series of prizes. The contest complements Aliso Viejo’s proactive, ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint through water conservation, recycling, special events and educating residents. “Our City is immersed in a Green City Initiative and is dedicated to being the greenest it can be,” said Mayor Donald Garcia. “I encourage our residents to take this challenge and dedicate themselves to taking simple steps every day to conserve water, reduce energy, and together we can benefit our environment for years to come.” Cities with the highest percentage of residents who take the challenge win. Participants in the winning cities will be eligible to win prizes such as a Toyota Prius Hybrid, home water makeover kits and more. Most importantly, participants will see real results based on simple actions they can do to save water and energy. Residents can make a pledge on behalf of Aliso Viejo at mywaterpledge.com.
