Mr. Samuel Tobias Foster, 18-year old Holy Spirit Catholic High School Senior, Tuscaloosa, Alabama

On April 27, 2011, a devastating tornado with winds of 260 mph ripped through Tuscaloosa Alabama, reducing a 6-mile swath of this Southern city to rubble and claiming 52 lives while injuring hundreds more. Captain Greg Kosloff, lost his home to the winds as he and his family huddled in the next-door basement. Immediately becoming a first-responder amid the devastation, Captain Kosloff was eventually joined by members of the Holy Spirit Catholic High School Baseball team of which he is the coach. Assembled by team-members Jackson Terry and Sam Foster, the students participated in the search and rescue efforts amidst the wind-ravaged neighborhoods. According to Jackson: ‘Each day my family went into one of the devastated areas to assist. No one was black, white, Hispanic, Catholic, Baptist or Jewish. We were all simply neighbors.’ Along with a simple meal, Scripture, music and prayer, the Prayer Breakfast presents a rare opportunity to hear of the funnel-shaped CROSS that befell Tuscaloosa last April  as seen through the eyes of a seasoned policeman and two high school youths. Captain Kosloff, Jackson and Sam will share their varied experiences and offer their reflections on how their faith sustained them during their darkest hours.

1. Both persons have NEVER been married before (this is a first marriage for both) and at least one spouse needs to be Roman Catholic.

2. If one or both persons have been married previously (in any manner or capacity) the prior marriage(s) need to have ALREADY been annulled by the  Roman Catholic Church (or the previous spouse is deceased.)

3. The couple needs to be already REGISTERED and participating within Corpus Christi as of February 1st, 2012. (Sorry, this is not available for extended family or friends who are not already REGISTERED Corpus Christi parishioners.)

4. BOTH spouses (no exceptions) need to attend a preparation meeting on Sunday, April 22nd at 2:00 p.m. in the Grand Hall. This is an adult-only meeting, please arrange to leave all infants, toddlers and children with sitters. Sorry, there are no ‘make-up’ meetings for sickness or unplanned conflicts.

All necessary paperwork will be explained at the April 22nd meeting, no documents need to be brought with you at that time. Please call our Front Office Receptionist, Susie Hays, at 389-9008 to confirm your eligibility and RSVP.

Adult Confirmation for those ALREADY 18 and ALREADY Registered at Corpus Christi…

Are you an Adult (over 18) who is a Baptized Catholic and who has received your First Reconciliation and First
Eucharist…BUT….have never received the Sacrament of CONFIRMATION? Well, PENTECOST Weekend is coming (the 5:00pm Mass on MAY 26th to be exact), and on that occasion, Bishop Tod authorizes pastors to offer the Sacrament of Confirmation to ADULTS who are our own parishioners. So, if you are presently an ADULT, 18+,  REGISTERED here in Corpus Christi (sorry, no outside family or friends who are not already registered and participating here at Corpus Christi) as of February 1, 2012, and would like to be CONFIRMED on  Saturday, May 26th …please contact Susan Hays at 389-9008  for information and to confirm eligibility. (P.S. We will eventually need a copy of your Baptismal Certificate and a copy of Your First Communion Certificate so you may want to start scrounging around for them.) Further information will be provided once your eligibility has been confirmed.

The outdoor Stations of the Cross are a lovely way by which to calm and center one’s self…Particularly during the Lenten Season, you are reminded of a most beautiful opportunity to pray and reflect upon the Stations of the Cross. While there are ceramic plaques present within our Grand Hall, the OUTDOOR Stations, located along the path between the street and parking lot, offer a restful and contemplative time to ponder Jesus’ sacrifice on Good Friday. The outdoor path is available 24/7, complete with a few places to sit and ponder.

Food Collection for South County Outreach is NEXT WEEKEND….please bring your non-perishable items, especially peanut butter, with you and deposit in the special hamper on the courtyard. Thanks.

Please, no food or beverage inside the Grand Hall during Mass…

Speaking of food…just a reminder that out of respect for the celebration of Eucharist, food and beverage should NOT be brought into Mass with you…nor should one be chewing gum. Remember that we are still urged  to FAST before Mass so as to anticipate a ‘wonderful and holy meal’, thus, this should not be a problem…just something that many may have forgotten. (This is also true for small children…please do not feed your precious tikes snacks or beverages to quiet them during Mass…if they become restless, simply taking them outside would be more appropriate. Thanks.)
