Corpus Christi CCC AV – Bulletin for March 31- April 1, 2012

Date:

March 31- April 1, 2012

Now taking applications for Youth Leadership at Corpus Christi: Youth Leadership is an opportunity at Corpus Christi for teens to gain leadership experience through training, mentoring, and experience.  Our task in youth ministry is to help teens grasp and enhance their gifts in leadership so as to be effective servant leaders in their church community.  Youth Leadership does take time and commitment but the rewards are endless.  Applications are available in the office or online.  For more information please email vininunez@corpuschristialisoviejo.org.

Youth Leadership Sponsorships now being accepted…

Corpus Christi is blessed with a great treasure in our parish youth that seek (and are accepted) to become Youth Leaders. The result of an evolving process of initial preparation and then ongoing training, our Youth Leaders are the ones you most frequently see serving at La Cena, selling food in our Food Booths, helping out at JAMs and HAVEN events and assisting with Faith Formation gatherings. They are, in a word, simply incredible. This year, our new Youth Ministry Coordinator, Mr. Vini Nunez is developing a revised multi-tract approach of training and prep that will offer  both specific opportunities for those NEW to Youth Leadership and more advanced experiences for those choosing to return and continue as Youth Leaders. Thus, this summer’s Youth Leadership Experience is not a single Retreat/Summit  but a series of experiences starting with all our Youth Leaders participating with the ‘Azusa Pacific University- Student Leadership Conference’ (where they will have the opportunity to interact with youth-leaders from other faiths and from all over the Western US) in early July followed by further team/leadership development tracts throughout the summer for the varied Leadership Levels of our Youth Leaders. With transportation, tuition, room and board and assorted food costs for both the Conference and follow-up events factored in, this Summer’s Youth Leadership Development will cost $500 per youth….and we are now accepting Sponsorship/Partial Sponsorship donations to help offset the cost for each of our projected 36 youth who will be accepted into this year’s Leadership training. In the past, your generosity has TREMENDOUSLY reduced the final cost for which each youth is individually responsible and I hope we can  again count on your kindness and support. If you wish to make a Sponsorship donation to support this year’s Youth Leadership efforts, please send your Sponsorship  (via the weekly Stewardship/Offertory collection or via US Mail) to Fr. Fred or give me a call (389-9011) to discuss putting it on your VISA/MasterCard or AMEX. Thank you, as always, for your love and care of our youth…the Church of today AND tomorrow.  FKB

Mr. Jackson Terry, 18-year old Holy Spirit Catholic High School Senior, Tuscaloosa, Alabama

Mr. Samuel Tobias Foster, 18-year old Holy Spirit Catholic High School Senior, Tuscaloosa, Alabama

On April 27, 2011, a devastating tornado with winds of 260 mph ripped through Tuscaloosa Alabama, reducing a 6-mile swath of this Southern city to rubble and claiming 52 lives while injuring hundreds more. Captain Greg Kosloff, lost his home to the winds as he and his family huddled in the next-door basement. Immediately becoming a first-responder amid the devastation, Captain Kosloff was eventually joined by members of the Holy Spirit Catholic High School Baseball team of which he is the coach. Assembled by team-members Jackson Terry and Sam Foster, the students participated in the search and rescue efforts amidst the wind-ravaged neighborhoods. According to Jackson: ‘Each day my family went into one of the devastated areas to assist. No one was black, white, Hispanic, Catholic, Baptist or Jewish. We were all simply neighbors.’ Along with a simple meal, Scripture, music and prayer, the Prayer Breakfast presents a rare opportunity to hear of the funnel-shaped CROSS that befell Tuscaloosa last April  as seen through the eyes of a seasoned policeman and two high school youths. Captain Kosloff, Jackson and Sam will share their varied experiences and offer their reflections on how their faith sustained them during their darkest hours.

In case you didn’t know: Those who participate with our Holy Thursday, Mass of the Lord’s Supper, are always invited to take some of the bread (that is in baskets near the altar) home with them and use it as part of your family GRACE on Easter Sunday. While NOT consecrated, it is ‘blessed’ and is a wonderful way of connecting the events of Holy Thursday with the empty tomb of Easter. Please come and share the experience!  (And come on Good Friday too!!)
