|
Students in Donna Smiggs’ fifth grade class at Castille Elementary School dissect a fetal pig.
|
For the last two Fridays, Castille Elementary School’s fifth graders have experienced hands-on anatomy lessons by dissecting fetal pigs and comparing their hearts with those of lambs and cows. Led by Dr. Mo Entezampour, Professor of Anatomy and Chair of the Science Department at West Coast University and Soka University, the dissections are part of the school’s growing emphasis on science and technology. Dr. Entezampour led the dissection while projecting the process on the big screen using a FlexCam so that students could easily follow the dissection. Many students were inspired by the experience to consider a career in medical science. In addition, several students discovered that the process was not as intimidating as it first seemed.
