The following are upcoming April school events for John Malcom Elementary:
*** 4/16 – 4/20, Spring Book Fair ***
It’s time for our Spring Book Fair Luau at John Malcom Elementary School – Monday, April 16th through Friday, April 20th! We have an incredible selection of books available from Scholastic Books.
Also, don’t miss our luau-style celebration at our Book Fair Family Night on Tuesday, April 17th from 5:30PM-7:30PM. There will be pizza, snow cones, and a poster and limbo competition. Additionally, guest readers will provide story time for families. Pizza, salad, and water are $5.00 per meal. Snow Cones will be sold for $1.00 each.
The book fair is held in the Multi-Purpose Room, around the corner from the main office, and is open to the community. So, hula on over for some Book Fair fun!
*** 4/20, Coffee with the Principal ***
Coffee with the Principal will be held at 8:00 AM on Friday, April 20th. This is a great opportunity for Malcom parents to sit down with our amazing principal, Dr. Faith Morris, and participate in an open discussion. Dr. Morris is happy to address any questions regarding current school, district or general educational matters. This gathering usually lasts about an hour, and coffee and muffins are provided.
*** 4/30 – 5/6, Screen Free Week ***
During the week of Monday, April 30th through Sunday, May 6th, Malcom Elementary will participate in Screen Free Week. This week, participating students will turn off televisions, video games, and computers (except for school related assignments). Instead, they’ll participate in other activities, like going for a walk or hike, riding a bike, reading a book, or getting together with friends. Enjoy a week without the screen…you’ll be amazed at what else is out there!
*** 4/29, 4th Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser Event ***
For the 4th year in a row, we are Rallying ‘Round Resident Support!!! Please join us Friday April 27th, from 6:00-9:00pm, at the Market at Monarch Beach for a kick-off to our spring direct drive for dollars. Tickets are $50.00 per person for a wonderful evening of beer and wine tasting and raffle prizes. Friends of Malcom is a non-profit, independent organization with the flexibility to annually evaluate spending priorities and raise funds accordingly. This year we are hoping to raise funds for six Resident Support Teachers campus-wide for the 2012/2013 school year. All donations are tax-deductible. “We’re ALL IN for Education!”
*** 5/1, The Imagination Machine ***
The Malcom PTA is pleased to present The Imagination Machine assembly coming to our school. Teachers have already submitted exceptional student writing for consideration in the upcoming performance, which will bring some of these stories to life. Students whose stories are selected will be able to hear their words spring onto the stage in a production complete with actors, music, props and costumes. There will be a primary and an upper grade assembly showcasing about ten student works in each. We want to thank the teachers for supporting this exciting project and the students for their tremendous writing.
*** 5/5, Kids Run the OC Marathon ***
On Saturday, May 5th, Malcom Elementary is pleased to participate again this year in the 8th Annual Kids Run the OC Marathon. Malcom Milers have been training in a 12-week on-campus program since February, led by Coach Bob Morris and Coach Kennie Arriola. By the end of the training program, each student will have accumulated the equivalent of 25.2 miles through various games and activities, and hopefully have increased their knowledge regarding healthy food choices and good eating habits. Students will then be ready to finish their “marathon” by participating in The OC Marathon “Kids Run the OC Marathon 1-Mile Run” on Saturday, May 5th, at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, CA.
