June 2-3, 2012
The weeks of June will fly and you are again reminded of the two final FKB Masses on June 30 and July 1. On Saturday, June 30th there will be the usual 5:00pm Mass for those who do not like crowds or outdoor events (with nothing following….just a simple Mass, indoors.) On Sunday morning, July 1st, we will celebrate ONE SINGLE Mass at 9:00am, outdoors on the lawn, followed by continued music along with a lovely reception prepared by our own Chef Bill Barber,: Pulled Pork Sliders (with barbecued pulled-pork made by FKB himself), Cashew Chicken Sliders, Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Assorted Fruit, Marble Sheet Cake and plenty of beverages. There will NOT be an 8, 10 or 12 Noon Mass that day, just one Mass at 9am. Parking will be available on the street and elsewhere, so plan accordingly. If you would like to help with the July 1st events, here are the people to contact:
Scotty Eisenbart, overseeing the food PREP and SERVICE volunteers; Scott@eisenbartandsons.com
Maribeth Cooper, partnering with Scotty to keep the food tables well stocked and serviced; overseeing any High School Youth who want to participate; mbcooper3@cox.net
Marc Jordan, overseeing lawn set-up and take down; marcjordan@corpuschristialisoviejo.org
Joy Bonde, overseeing beverage upkeep and supply; JBonde@memorialcare.org

As is true of most things in life….every ending is followed by fresh beginnings and on the weekend of July 7-8 you are invited to welcome Fr. Tim Ramaekers as the new Pastor of Corpus Christi. Following each of the Masses we will host a WELCOME RECEPTION for Fr. Tim at which time you can mingle, say hello and enjoy a nice array of refreshments. These receptions are being coordinated, hosted and prepared under the auspices of Scotty Eisenbart (Scott@eisenbartandsons.com) and Joy Bonde (joybonde@me.com). If you would like to assist in any way with the receptions on that weekend and give a warm and loving welcome to Fr. Tim, please make contact via e-mail with either Scotty of Joy. Thanks!!!
Corpus Christi Adult Faith Formation presents “The Book of Acts,” a Bible study exploring the early development of the Church. The Book of Acts will be explored from beginning to end and general focus will be placed on author, audience, theology, history, symbolism and modern relevance. The course will be taught by Shawn Wehan (Coordinator of Adult Faith Formation) and will involve spiritual reading, lecture and small group sharing. The class will take place on Monday evenings at 7PM and repeated Tuesday mornings at 10AM. The remaining course dates are: June 4 & 5, 11 & 12, 18 & 19
Some tinkering is going on with Good Shepherd/Little Lambs….
In order to better serve and PROTECT our children using Good Shepherd/Little Lambs ministry we will be making modifications regarding limits on when children can be dropped off, increased need for parent oversight for disruptive children and probably a move toward a ‘co-op’ method of requiring parents who use the ministry to volunteer on a periodic basis to provide proper oversight. We want the Good Shepherd/Little Lambs experience to be rich and wonderful for our kids…as we presume you do as well…so keep your eyes open for ways in which you can help Betina and Cathy make it the BEST we can!!! Thanks.
This year’s YOUTH LEADERSHIP EVENT is in EARLY JULY…thus we need your help sooner than usual!
So far we still have only received seven full sponsorships and a few partials… ….
Can you help any of the remaining 20 youth be sponsored?
Corpus Christi is blessed with a great treasure in our parish youth that seek (and are accepted) to become Youth Leaders. The result of an evolving process of initial preparation and then ongoing training, our Youth Leaders are the ones you most frequently see serving at La Cena, selling food in our Food Booths, helping out at JAMs and HAVEN events and assisting with Faith Formation gatherings. They are, in a word, simply incredible. This year, our new Youth Ministry Coordinator, Mr. Vini Nunez is developing a revised multi-tract approach of training and prep that will offer both specific opportunities for those NEW to Youth Leadership and more advanced experiences for those choosing to return and continue as Youth Leaders.
Thus, this summer’s Youth Leadership Experience is not a single Retreat/Summit but a series of experiences starting with all our Youth Leaders participating with the ‘Azusa Pacific University- Student Leadership Conference’ (where they will have the opportunity to interact with youth-leaders from other faiths and from all over the Western US) in early July followed by further team/leadership development tracts throughout the summer for the varied Leadership Levels of our Youth Leaders. With transportation, tuition, room and board and assorted food costs for both the Conference and follow-up events factored in, this Summer’s Youth Leadership Development will cost $500 per youth….and we are now accepting Sponsorship/Partial Sponsorship donations to help offset the cost for each of our 27 youth who are being interviewed for this year’s Leadership training. In the past, your generosity has TREMENDOUSLY reduced the final cost for which each youth is individually responsible and I hope we can again count on your kindness and support. If you wish to make a Sponsorship donation to support this year’s Youth Leadership efforts, please send your Sponsorship (via the weekly Stewardship/Offertory collection or via US Mail) to Fr. Fred or give me a call (389-9011) to discuss putting it on your VISA/MasterCard or AMEX. Thank you, as always, for your love and care of our youth…the Church of today AND tomorrow. FKB
He’s not Santa, but Vini is making a list and checking it twice…
Vini Nunez (our Youth Ministry Coordinator) is asking for help with compiling a ‘speakers list’ of community leaders who would be willing to be guest speakers for the development of Youth Leadership at Corpus Christi. He is seeking ‘local talent’ to periodically speak to our Youth Leaders in the areas of, but not limited to: Character & Values in Christian Leadership ** Managing Teams ** Communication ** Motivation ** Decision Making & Problem Solving ** Negotiations / Mediation ** Leadership Styles ** Power & Influence of social change as Catholic Christian Leaders ** Leading Change ** General Leadership ** Marketing. If you would like to offer yourself for this effort, please contact Vini at: vininunez@corpuschristialisoviejo.org or (949) 831-2349
With the arrival of June, Father’s Day draws near, the weekend of June 16-17. Special Father’s Day Mass cards are available on the Concierge Shelves by which to remember your Dad, living or deceased, in the special series of June Masses.
A timely reminder for those requesting proof of Registration/Parish Involvement….
Please note that, from proven necessity, Corpus Christi has a policy that impacts only a small number of people. Most Catholic Schools require proof of Registration/participation within Catholic parishes. Long-time Registered/participating parishioners (and those previously registered/participating in other parishes) will not be impacted in any way. However, an unfortunate truth is that some people only Register so as to get their children into a particular school (sometimes even seeking a ‘Parish Discount!’) but are not present nor financially supportive of our parish programs and efforts. To help avoid these situations, in order to receive a Letter of Parish Verification/Participation from Corpus Christi, families need to have been Registered AND financially participating at Corpus Christi for a minimum of the recent FULL calendar year. The year-long financial record needs to be verifiable through regular use of offertory/stewardship envelopes, credit card records, specific donations to parish programs via check, Pastoral Services Appeal Pledges, etc. This should not prove a hindrance to anyone newly arrived here in Aliso Viejo, as all Catholic Schools will accept a Letter of Verification/Participation from your previous parish in your former community.
Our Corpus Christi Book Club hopes you’ll join us on this Monday, June 4, 7:00 PM, Meeting Room 4, for a discussion of Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler.
. Do you (or your child) desire to become Roman Catholic in 2013?
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults – and – Rite of Christian Initiation Adapted for Children/Teens
With this year’s Easter season now finished you may recall that the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is the Church-approved manner by which adults who are either not baptized or have been baptized into another Christian denomination are sacramentaly received and welcomed into the Roman Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation) or if already baptized in another Christian denomination, through a Profession of Faith. For children/teens ages 7-17, the same Rite is adapted to be age appropriate but remains the universal manner for being received and welcomed into the Roman Catholic Church. Reception into the Church through Baptism or Profession of Faith for children, teens or adults occurs on Holy Saturday during the Easter Vigil Liturgy, which will occur next year on March 30, 2013. The preparation process for adults, teens or children who would like to be received into the Church at Easter, 2013, will be getting underway in early summer. Those who would like to participate, and are presently Registered members of Corpus Christi parish (as of May1, 2012), are asked to contact Susie Hays at 389-9008, so that the necessary pre-enrollment paperwork can be assembled. Thanks.
La Cena is coming…La Cena is coming….In the midst of all the parish changes that will be occurring this Summer, it is important to remember that parish life continues…and one of the best ways to reassure yourselves that Corpus Christi is still Corpus Christi is to make plans to attend and enjoy this Summer’s two ‘La Cena’ evenings of food and music. Scheduled for Saturday, July 21st and again on Saturday, August 18th, each evening will commence following the 5:00 p.m. Mass outdoors on our lawn. Pre-paid advance reservations will be required but in a nod to continuing economic uncertainty, the tiered pricing for each evening will be only $25 per adult (15 and up), $15 for children (10-14) and only $10 for wee-ones (2-9), infants under 2 are free. This being a fund-raiser we are of course looking for whatever donations of food, beverage or supplies we can obtain that will cut down on our initial costs. If you know of any generous suppliers of quality sausage, pasta, bread, salad fixings or good vino…please make contact with either Lisa Aguirre (lisa-a@cox.net) or Georgina Yacap (gyacap@cox.net.) With pastoral transitions having just occurred, these ‘La Cena’s’ will be a wonderful opportunity to not only meet and experience Corpus Christi’s new Pastor, Fr. Tim Ramaekers, but also demonstrate to him who we are! Make sure you make your RESERVATIONS!!
Due to the annual Priest Retreat Week, please note that there will NOT BE ANY weekday Masses during the week of June 4-8. In addition, the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be absent and in use for the Clergy Worship Space, along with our two padded kneelers from the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, which will be in use for the Clergy Blessed Sacrament Chapel at La Quinta. Just keeping you in the loop so you know….
