We will miss you this summer!  Enjoy your time with your family and we will look forward to seeing you again in the Fall.

If there is some news or changes throughout the summer, we will post on our Bergeson Website or send out in a listserve to you.

Have a great summer and don’t forget to keep on reading….just because you love it!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 5TH GRADE CLASS OF 2012! We are going to miss you and wish you well with your future in middle school, high school and beyond.  The ceremony yesterday was beautiful with the sign language performance by our 3rd graders, the choral performance from our 5th grade choir and each 5th grade student receiving their transition certificate.  Once a bulldog; always a bulldog!  Come back and visit us to brag about your successes.  We love to hear them!

DID YOU KNOW? 12 of the Valedictorians from Aliso Niguel High School’s graduating class of 2012 this year were Bergeson Grads!  To be a valedictorian, you would need to have 4.0 grade point average or higher for all 4 years of high school.  It’s good to know that Bergeson students get such a great education that they can continue to become Valedictorian of their class!  It warms our hearts to know that our supportive community of families, students and staff can help to grow such confident young adults.

REPORT CARDS: Just a reminder that as a district, we are keeping report card comments minimal – only that which is not self-explanatory will be in the comment section of the report card.  We are no longer writing things like “Have a wonderful summer” but we definitely want you to have one!  The new report cards are quite detailed and therefore, unless there is something very important to describe, the comment section would be blank.  Again, this is a new district policy which goes along with the new detailed report cards.  Thank you for your understanding.

BERGESON SUMMER ACADEMY STARTS ON MONDAY: You can sign up for this FANTASTIC summer class by going to this link:  http://register.asapconnected.com/CourseDetail.aspx?CourseId=20717 Want to make sure that your child does not lose any skills over the summer?  Sign them up for the Bergeson Summer Academy!  It’s being taught by our Bergeson teachers.  Your child will get some active instruction in math, reading and writing in a small classroom setting from 9 – 11 AM, Monday thru Thursday in two week sessions.  Sign up for one session or both sessions.  Session I:  June 25 – July 5.  Session II:  July 9 – 19.  There is limited space because of the small classes sizes so sign up ASAP.

LOOKING FOR A PROJECT OVER THE SUMMER?  CONSIDER REFLECTIONS! It’s never too early to start thinking about ideas for your next Reflections project.  The PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students. The Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme. The theme selected for next year’s Reflections program is “Magic of the Moment”. You can choreograph a dance, write a poem or story, take a photograph, make a movie, or paint or draw a picture related to the theme. Please make a note that the deadline for entries will be in October. To find out more information go to this link:  http://www.pta.org/2033.htm

2012-13 CLASS LISTS – Class lists will be posted near the kindergarten classrooms on Tuesday, September 4 at 3:00 p.m.  Plan to join us for a fun Welcome Back Class Posting Party sponsored by our Bergeson PTA and Foundation.

2012-13 KINDERGARTEN SCHEDULE – CUSD school sites currently do not have kindergarten start and dismissal times.  Once we have this information, parents will be notified.

CUSD DISTRICT CALENDARS FOR 2012-2013 Go to: www.capousd.org/calendars.htm

LUNCH ACCOUNT INFORMATION: Money left in your child’s account will automatically rollover to the next grade level and/or school. Efunds’ automatic and recurring payments will be turned off June 22, 2012. You will need to manually reset your parameters for automatic and recurring payments starting August 13, 2012. Log on to Efunds to check low balance setting and to reset to either automatic or recurring payments.

FOOTPRINT FRIDAY: Because of your donations this past Wednesday, we were able to fill the 4th bin and collect another $1000.  Yippee!  We have filled 4 large bins of recyclables this year for a total donation to our school of $4000.  We are so thankful to our Bergeson community for continuing to save and donate their bottles and cans.  A big thank you to Jamie Warth, the coordinator of the Green Team and her committee who were out there sorting recyclables every Friday.  It’s not a pretty job but reaps great benefits to our school and we truly appreciate it.

SCHOOL SUMMER OFFICE HOURS: The school office is now closed and reopen again for registration in mid-August. A date has not yet been determined, so please check the summer listservs and website.

SIGN UP FOR THE PARENT PORTAL NOW: During the first week of school, elementary students always carry home a large packet of information for parents/guardians to read over, fill out, update, and return.  By registering NOW for a Parent Portal account, the time you spend completing all of that documentation in September will be drastically reduced! By logging onto your Parent Portal account after July 25, you will be able to complete 80% of the process online.  Emergency contacts, demographic information, and medical history forms can be reviewed and updated instantly.   Policies, applications, permissions and authorizations can be reviewed and accepted electronically. If you have more than one child, simply toggle between children and follow the same steps.  Letters were distributed to you in your fall parent conference with specific information related to Parent Portal account creation. The information in the letter includes your student’s ID, home phone, and a unique verification code which will be needed during the portal registration process.  Using the information from the letter, simply logon to abi.capousd.org where you will find directions and a link for creating your Parent Portal account.  There is also a Parent Portal link on each school’s homepage. A HELP link is available at abi.capousd.org if you have questions during the summer “re-registration” process.  If you have lost your letter, please contact the school office by June 15 for a replacement.

MANDARIN CHINESE IMMERSION NEWS: If you are interested in fundraising efforts and social events, you can find information on this website:  www.friendsofmip.com

MIP SUMMER ENRICHMENT: We are excited to announce a MIP Summer Enrichment session that will be offered through CUSD ACE.  Classes are open to everyone and will be offered in a one week or two week interval from August 13 – August 23rd, Monday-Thursday from 9am-noon.  To enroll, click here: http://register.asapconnected.com/CourseDetail.aspx?CourseID=25676
