James Tormé, Son of Legendary Mel Tormé
Laguna Beach, CA — The Festival of Arts “Jazz on the Green” series wraps up on Saturday, August 4th from 1-3pm with a must-see performance by James Tormé.
The apple didn’t fall far from the tree for James Tormé, son of legendary entertainer Mel Tormé and British actress Janette Scott. Born into a family blessed with talent and an immense passion for all genres of music, James was influenced by all types of music, especially that by his idol Michael Jackson.
Released in 2011, his debut album, “Love for Sale,” pays tribute to the “King of Pop” with his first single from the album — a cover of Michael Jackson’s 1979 hit, “Rock with You.”
A 2010 John Lennon Award Winner, Tormé is a uniquely gifted singer whose music infuses older jazz classics with soul and R&B influences of today. His music, which appeals to young and old audiences alike, pays tribute to all corners of American music history.
“My dad was a hero to me, and his lifelong love affair with music inspired my own,” Tormé noted. “He was impressing musical tastes and ideas on me from very early on [in my life] and I’m endlessly grateful for that.”
“James Tormé is a dynamic vocalist who puts his own unique twist on everything from classic standards to the most timeless contemporary pop and R&B songs,” said Susan Davis, director of special events for the Festival of Arts. “And it’s the perfect conclusion to ‘Jazz on the Green’, which has seen jazz’s best performers, such as Jessy J, Poncho Sanchez, and Jackiem Joyner. Tormé’s appearance is not to be missed.”
James Tormé will perform on Saturday, August 4th from 1pm-3pm on stage at the Festival green. There is no extra cost beyond admission to the Festival of Arts for guests to enjoy the performance by James Tormé.
