LAGUNA BEACH, CA — On August 14th and August 16th, Festival visitors are invited to explore art in mixed media and learn all about restoring and preserving two dimensional art as the informative special event series “Art Talks” continues.
On Tuesday August 14th from 12pm-1pm, painter-ceramicist and Festival of Arts exhibitor Mike Tauber will moderate an examination of mixed media art. Tauber will be joined by artists Marlo Bartels, V. Lee Cabanilla, Rose Hamner and Andrew Myers, whose styles vary widely and whose works range from “street furniture” to industrial sculpture to fiber arts to hand carved pendants. But all share a common foundation: innovation.
“The artists we’ll hear from on the 14th are, in my opinion, some of the bravest artists around,” says Tauber who himself has forged a new frontier with fine art tiles that are once paintings and ceramics. “I admire the way these artists are pushing their limits to try new combinations of materials and techniques.”
On Thursday August 16th from 12pm-1pm, fine art conservator Derby Williams will visit the Festival of Arts to explain the “how and why” of restoring and preserving two dimensional art. Derby has been a noted professional artist and conservator for numerous years.
Art Talks: A Lecture Series continues throughout the Festival of Arts 2012 season. On Tuesdays, experienced artists take attendees through topics of medium, influences, and current trends; on Thursdays, Orange County’s top curators, collectors, and conservators lead discussions on issues of buying, appraising, displaying, restoring and conserving fine art. Brown bag lunches from Gina’s will be available for purchase or you can bring your own! Art Talks: A Lecture Series is free with Festival admission.
