«School Starts Wednesday, September 5, 2012«

SCHOOL SCHEDULES: School schedules are attached to this email with specific start and end times. Please note that Kindergarten has significant changes! Also note that school starts at 7:45 AM. During Kindergarten orientation, there was mention of the possibility of starting school later in the morning but this idea was not accepted by the school district. Print off the attached schedule and hang in a prominent place in your home. Lastly, please note that the first 3 days of school are all different schedules. Wednesday, 9/5 is a minimum day and school is out at 11:50 AM for 1st through 5th graders. On the first day of school, Kindergarteners have student/parent orientation and therefore please note the timing. (My apologies for a mistake in the Kindergarten times in last week’s BARK)

SPREEBIRD LOCAL DEAL AT IHOP:

There is a special Spreebird deal for 50% off at IHOP on Aliso Creek Road but only if you order in the next day or two. Pay $10 and get $20 off of your bill. Imagine how many school supplies you can buy with that kind of money! You can only vote one time a week – so please spread the word!! Just type in Bergeson, Laguna Niguel, CA and you can vote for our school.

SCHOOL SUMMER OFFICE HOURS:

Starting August 20 and for the rest of the year: Office is open from 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM

STUDENT REGISTRATION: Please register your children ASAP at the office times noted above. We are creating our classes and want to make sure that your child is included.

2012-13 CLASS LISTS – Class lists will be posted near the kindergarten classrooms on Tuesday, September 4 at 3:00 p.m. Plan to join us for a fun Welcome Back Class Posting Party sponsored by our Bergeson PTA and Foundation. We will have free ice cream sundaes and popcorn for all! This will also be a great time to sign up for your annual support of the PTA, Bergeson Foundation (BESF) and Friends of MIP (Mandarin Immersion Program). We rely heavily on these organizations to support our programs which make our school a wonderful environment for our children. We will also have information on signing up for the YMCA before and after-school programs.

FOR ALL KINDERGARTEN AND 1ST GRADE FAMILIES:

The Bergeson Elementary School Foundation (BESF) is hosting the Second Annual K-1 Family Social. Please join us for food and drinks on September 21, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This is a great way to meet other Bergeson Families and learn more about BESF. The event is hosted by BESF and is completely free to all Kindergarten and First grade families. The YMCA will be there with fun activities for the kids. Look for the flyer when school resumes. We hope to see you there.

FOOTPRINT FRIDAY IS BACK!

Save your bottles and cans because starting the first Friday of school our Green Team will be there to collect all of your CRV plastic bottles and aluminum cans. Last year The Green Team raised about $4000!!!! With this money, we were able to purchase some new computers for our school! We are excited to start the school year with a school vs. school competition!!! Did you know that Mr. Scholl (Mrs. Scholl’s husband) is the principal at Palisades Elementary School in Capistrano Beach? We will have a competition between our two schools for the entire month of September. The winning school will earn a school wide pajama day AND the losing school principal must wear the other school’s shirt, at HOME and at SCHOOL!!! Mrs. Scholl does NOT want to wear a Palisades shirt. But we know Mr. Scholl will look fantastic in a Bergie Bulldog shirt! Let’s rock and roll! Bring in your bottles and cans every Friday morning!

2012/2013 RE-REGISTRATION/UPDATING DATA PROCESS: If you have registered for a CUSD Parent Portal account, you are encouraged to begin the annual re-registration process by logging into the Portal (abi.capousd.org) to review and update your child’s demographic and emergency contact information. You will also be asked to read, review, and accept district policies and then print the data confirmation signature form and data confirmation email. Those forms will be requested by your child’s school. For parents who have not yet been able to create a Parent Portal account and do not have access to your child’s verification code, please contact the school office to obtain that confidential information. If you are the parent of an incoming kindergarten or transitional kindergarten student, you will receive information regarding your Parent Portal account during your school’s first day kindergarten orientation. Instructions for creating a Parent Portal account, additional information, and a short video overview can be found at abi.capousd.org. If your child is dual enrolled at 2 CUSD schools, it will be necessary to complete the online data confirmation process for both schools. In addition, once our STAR testing results become available, you will be able to access these test results via your Parent Portal.

LOOKING FOR A PROJECT OVER THE SUMMER? CONSIDER REFLECTIONS! It’s never too early to start thinking about ideas for your next Reflections project. The PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students. The Reflections Program provides opportunities for students to express themselves creatively and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme. The theme selected for next year’s Reflections program is “Magic of the Moment”. You can choreograph a dance, write a poem or story, take a photograph, make a movie, or paint or draw a picture related to the theme. Please make a note that the deadline for entries will be in October. To find out more information go to this link: http://www.pta.org/2033.htm

STUDENT SUPPLY LISTS: Lists of student supplies are on our Bergeson website. As always, the purchase of school supplies is strictly voluntary. A note to Kindergarten parents: Instead of the purchase of a backpack, our Kindergarten teachers recommend a medium sized tote bag with 2 handles on top.
