Saddleback’s Forensics Team Placed Fifth Overall
at the California Double-Up Tournament
The Saddleback Speech and Debate team competed on October 7, 2012 at Azusa Pacific University. Over 24 Colleges and Universities competed including: Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, Concordia University and Biola University to name a few. Saddleback College sent one-fourth of the total squad to this tournament and yet managed to place fourth overall in individual events and fifth overall in the tournament. Saddleback finished ahead of several four-year institutions proving once again that Saddleback can compete with the finest speech institutions in the country.
Speech Coach Lucas Ochoa stated, “We’re off and running. To take fifth place with this entry proves how excited we are to see how we finish at State and Nationals. The students are working tremendously hard and we can’t wait to see how our squad looks in the coming months.” Director of Speech at Saddleback College Larry Radden stated, “It’s so exciting to see the amazing talent and dedication from the students. It’s an honor to serve the students and college.”

The Saddleback Forensics Team started in the 1970s and prides itself on offering students the ability to create innovative arguments for future writing and speaking engagements to strengthen their critical thinking skills and to better communicate with others.

Piano Master Class with Dr. Irene Peery-Fox
Mission Viejo, CA – Reflections of the Ocean Classical Keyboard Series at Saddleback College, Department of Music, is pleased to present Dr. Irene Peery-Fox in a rare appearance in southern California at Saddleback College presenting a piano master class on Saturday, October 27th from 3-5 pm in Fine Arts 101. Saddleback piano students will also perform.
Dr. Irene Peery-Fox serves on the Brigham Young University piano faculty. Her students have been frequent prize winners in international, national, state, and local competitions. An accomplished concert pianist, she received her doctoral degree from the Peabody conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, where she studied with Leon Fleisher. Before her doctoral work, she earned bachelor of music and master of science degrees from Juilliard, studying with Irwin Freudlich, Jeaneanne Dowis, and Ilona Kabos. She has also earned an ARCT degree from the Royal conservatory in Toronto and a performing arts degree from the University of Alberta, Edmonton. Her many concerto appearances include performances with orchestras in Montreal, Toronto, Salt Lake City, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Victoria, Calgary, Provo, and Lethbridge. She has performed solo recitals in Canada, the United States (including Carnegie), and Europe, and chamber recitals at Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She has also performed on radio and television on the NBC, CBC, and BBC networks. She is listed in the Canadian Dictionary of Music and Musicians and in the Outstanding Young Women of America.

Take Avery Parkway to Marguerite Parkway turn left to the third traffic light, which is Saddleback’s Marguerite entrance. Turn right into the campus and take the second left to Theatre Circle, turning right into Lot 12.
The Music Department has established a comprehensive program which is considered to be one of the finest in California: a complete lower-division curriculum for transferring music majors, numerous performance groups, private and group lessons, a full concert series with faculty and guest artists, and general music courses.
