at Saddleback College

Mission Viejo, CA – The Dance Department at Saddleback College is proud to present Winterdance 2012 on Thursday, November 15th at 1 pm, Friday, November 16th at 8 pm and Saturday, November 17th at 8 pm in the McKinney Theatre. Directed by Dorothy Anderson Garant, Winterdance is choreographed by Dance Department faculty and performed by Saddleback dance students. This popular yearly concert showcases numerous dance styles including ballet, modern, jazz, tap, hip hop and more. Proceeds benefit concert expenses and student scholarships.

One of the pieces titled Heroes, choreographed by dance faculty member Marji Himes, is a heartfelt, serious dance number about the trials and tribulations of married life in the military. Veteran Services at Saddleback College have offered supplies to be used in the performance including uniforms, camouflage pants and sea bags. Former Marine Alexis Saavedra came to rehearsal to talk to the dance students about the hardships and responsibilities of married live versus Marine Corp life. She told the dancers how impressed she was with how she could already see a storyline developing within the rehearsal performance.

Tickets are $12 (presale); $15 (at the door); children 7 years and under free but require an admission ticket. Call (949) 582-4656 or online at www.saddleback.edu/arts for tickets.

The Saddleback College Dance Department offers several technique classes at all levels for ballet, jazz, modern and tap. In addition, courses are offered in the history of dance, exercise for dancers, rehearsal and performance, dance production and choreography. College-wide dance concerts are put on each semester and promoted as a major theater event.
