Dear friend,
The reports I’m receiving from my colleagues in New York and New Jersey are overwhelming. Communities are submerged, homes washed away, chabad centers completely flooded, and families displaced or without power, food and water.
This week’s Parsha opens with G-d visiting Abraham on the third day after his circumcision, teaching us the importance of visiting the sick. Our sages tell us that just as G-d visits the sick, comforts the mourner and helps those in need, we, too, must emulate G-d by helping people in their greatest time of need.
With the realization that there are wonderful relief organizations out there, I would like to humbly recommend the Chabad Relief Fund. This fund is run by volunteers, ensuring that 100% of your donation will go directly to help those in need.
By doing so you can partner with Rabbi Eli and Baila Goodman of Long Beach, NY whose home and chabad center are both totally destroyed. They are without a home and belongings but not without optimism and courage, as they selflessly put the the needs of their community (and a Bar Mitzvah boy’s planned shabbat celebration) above thier own.
You can partner with Rabbi Levi and Shoshi Gurkov from Oceanside, NY, as they go from house to house giving comfort while waiting for their own power to be restored “so we can bring soup and a little warmth to our neighbors…”
You can partner with Rabbi Avrohom and Mashie Rapoport of Ventnor, NJ as they visit the elderly and help those in need, while trying to clean up their own flooded Chabad center and home.
These are just a few of the many Chabad families who are helping their communities get their bearings after the devastation wreaked by Hurricane Sandy, while dealing with their own tremendous losses.
Please Click Here to make a generous contribution to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.
In the merit of the Mitzvah of Tzedakah, may G-d Almighty speedily send us the redemption with Moshiach when there will be goodness and happiness for all mankind.
Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Mendy Paltiel
P.S. Join us on Saturday for prayer services, followed by a special Kiddush lunch sponsored by Aarn & Lorraine Goldstein, in honor of Lorraine’s recovery back to good health.
