HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL OF OUR BERGESON FAMILIES!

We are very thankful for the amazing children that we work with every day.

THANKSGIVING RECESS WILL BE FROM NOVEMBER 19 – 23: School will resume on 11/26.

SAVE THE DATE, NOVEMBER 30 FOR COFFEE TALK: PTA and BESF will be presenting a special COFFEE TALK on November 30 from 8 – 9 AM with District Attorney Investigator, Paul Carvo who is Orange County’s expert on Internet Safety for Children. Mr. Carvo will be speaking with our 4th and 5th graders on Thursday and then will share information with parents on Friday morning, 11/30. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us for some coffee and good conversation.

CANNED FOOD DRIVE: Thank you so much for all of your donations of food for the RAISE Foundation drive. The driver wasn’t sure that he could get all of the food in one truckload! The class who brought in the most food was Mrs. Loh’s first grade class so they will get a free lunch field trip at TGI Friday’s! Most importantly, we will help to feed many families who are less fortunate throughout Orange County.

HOLIDAY MUSIC PERFORMANCES:

5TH grade choir will perform on 12/12/12 at 6:30 PM at Aliso Niguel High School gym.

Tuesday, December 18, Holiday Show with Mr. Healy

8:00 A.M. – 2nd Grade

9:20 A.M. – Kindergarten

11:00 A.M. – 3rd Grade

1:15 P.M. – 1st Grade

5th Grade Band, Orchestra and Choir: 12/21, Friday at 12:45 PM

REFLECTIONS WINNERS: Our Bergeson winners for the Reflections Art Contest were sent on to the District competition. Last night, we found out that 5th grader, Morgan Haberlin won an “Award of Merit” for his Film/video Production. 4th grader, Natalie Ruckmick won an “Honorable Mention” for her Literature entry. Both were in the Intermediate categories. Congratulations to Morgan and Natalie who represented Bergeson School in a very special way!

LAGUNA NIGUEL HOLIDAY PARADE: Bergeson School will walk in the Laguna Niguel Parade which will be held on December 8 at 10 AM. Our student council will ride on a school bus through the parade with the other Laguna Niguel Schools. Any children and parents who are interested in walking with us for the parade would meet at the Wendy’s on the corner of Golden Lantern and Crown Valley at 10 AM. We will hold our Bergeson banner with Bulldog pride! Wear holiday colors or your Bergeson spirit wear. The parade is one mile in length.

WICKED: Our school has a block of 100 seats for the Broadway musical, Wicked at the OC Performing Arts Center (Segerstrom Center for the Arts) on 3/10/13 at 6:30 PM, Sunday. The group discount is 10%, therefore the ticket is $73 per seat (normally $79.50) for Tier 2, rows A – G (front of the balcony). Normally we get a better educational discount but this show is more popular and therefore a smaller discount is offered to us. This is not a fundraiser; just an opportunity to share the arts with children. Make check out to SCFTA with your child’s name and classroom in the memo line. First paid get the best seats. Description from the website: Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for “the most complete—and completely satisfying—new musical in a long time” (USA Today). On Broadway and around the world, Wicked has worked its magic on critics and audiences alike. Winner of 35 major awards, including a Grammy® and three Tony® Awards, Wicked is “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” and “the defining musical of the decade” (The New York Times).

4th and 5th GRADE GEO BEE: Our 4th and 5th grade students will participating in the Bergeson Geo Bee right after the Thanksgiving break. The Geo Bee is similar to a spelling bee except that students are answering questions about Geography. Thank you to the Bergeson Foundation for paying our registration fee for this program and thanks to Mrs. Wendy Thomas for organizing our school’s participation. If students would like to study over their vacation, they can go to these websites:

www.sheppardsoftware.com

BOXTOPS FOR EDUCATION: As you prepare all those holiday treats in the coming weeks, take a moment to clip Boxtops for Education and Labels for Education symbols off the products you buy. Our school earns money and merchandise for those labels! Bring them in to the collection envelope in your child’s classroom. Each month, the class that collects the most will win a prize! For a list of participating products, check out http://www.boxtops4education.com/earn/clip/Brands.aspx and http://www.labelsforeducation.com/Earn-Points/Participating-Products. You are welcome to turn them in at the office or to your teacher.

IN LINE ~ ON TIME: If the class is In Line ~ On Time at the beginning of our day when the bell rings at 7:45 AM, the class receives a letter. Our goal is to spell out PERFECT ATTENDANCE. When we spell it out with those 17 days where all students are In Line ~ On Time, the whole class gets a popsicle party.

Congratulations to Mrs. Brewer’s Early Bird class and Mrs. Gray’s 3rd graders for spelling out PERFECT ATTENDANCE and getting their popsicle party this week!

MANDARIN CHINESE IMMERSION NEWS: If you are interested in fundraising efforts and social events, you can find information on this website: www.friendsofmip.com.
