BOX TOPS COMPETITION CONTINUES: Keep collecting those Box Tops and Labels for Education and dropping them into your teacher’s collection envelope, and your class may win our Winter competition! Mrs. Hornig and Mrs. Jones class were our Fall competition winners and received a popsicle party! Check out boxtops4education.com to find out how you can earn extra Box Tops for our school, and to find eligible brands.

FUN RUN: It’s almost FUN RUN time! This year our Fun Run is going to be held March 22. This fun event helps raise important funds for all of our PTA programs and primarily our Science Lab! We are currently looking for corporate sponsors for this event. If your company would like to be on our event Tshirt, support a great cause, and get a tax write off, please contact our Fun Run Co-Chair, Trina Jonas, trinajonas@gmail.com, (949)633-8150. We have sponsorship levels of $100, $250, and $500. All sponsors have to be in by the end of January!

COFFEE TALK ON 2/1 AT 8 am: PTA is sponsoring a Coffee-Talk with Mike Beekman, Director of Security and Safety for Capistrano Unified School District. We will also have a school resource officer with the Laguna Niguel Sheriff Dept. with Mr. Beekman so that we can hear about the plans that are in place to keep children safe throughout the area. We are very fortunate to have both of these valuable people right here at Bergeson to talk with us on February 1! With all of the discussion about Sandy Hook School lately, we want to make sure that our school is as safe as it can be for our children.

FATHER DAUGHTER BREAKFAST ON FEBRUARY 9 AT MIMI’S RESTAURANT: Bring your daughter to one of our favorite events of the year – the Father Daughter Breakfast at Mimi’s Restaurant on La Paz, February 9 at 8 AM. Keep an eye out for the flyer which will come home next week!

DADS AND DONUTS: Thank you to all of the dads who joined us today. We are estimating that we had 200 dads, which was a fantastic turnout! We’ll make sure to do it again sometime soon with thanks for taking time out of your morning to be with your children here at school. Thank you to Bob Springer and Vanessa Leite for organizing this event.

BERGESON VARIETY SHOW IS COMING: Auditions are scheduled for Mon & Tues, Feb. 4 & 5, from 2:00-4:30 p.m. in the MPR. The Variety Show event will be held at Wood Canyon Elementary School on February 22. Start to put your groups together and think about an act for the auditions!

KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP IS FEBRUARY 20: Can you believe that we’re already talking about the 2013-14 school year? Yes, we are! Kindergarten Round-Up will be held at 1 PM on February 20 which is where our new Kindergarten parents will get their registration packet. Children must be 5 years old on or before Oct. 1, 2013, to begin kindergarten in September. Mark your calendar and spread the word to your neighbors.

E-WASTE COLLECTION ON MARCH 9: Did you get a new TV for Christmas? Make sure to save all of your electronic waste for our E-Waste Disposal day on the morning of Saturday, March 9. Our school is paid for all of your waste by the pound and last year’s collection made about $500 for our school. Mark your calendar and bring the old DVDs, Video Players, TV’s, Microwaves and all of it right here to the Bergeson parking lot.

IN LINE ~ ON TIME: If the class is In Line ~ On Time at the beginning of our day when the bell rings at 7:45 AM, the class receives a letter. Our goal is to spell out PERFECT ATTENDANCE. When we spell it out with those 17 days where all students are In Line ~ On Time, the whole class gets a popsicle party.

We have a tardy call going out each day at about 10 AM starting next week. If a child is tardy to school, you will receive this automated call. It is important that we keep parents informed especially for our children who walk to school to make sure that parents know when children are tardy. Please try hard to get your child to school on time.

BERGESON SHINING STARS are Bergeson kids who do something special to give back to their community in the form of service. If your child deserves a Shining Star, the applications are in the office so that you can fill it out. Our Shining Stars get a star in the MPR all year and a cool bracelet, too.

PARENT WORKSHOP: No Regrets Parenting Seminar to be held at Dana Hills High School. The Capistrano Unified Council of PTSAs (CUCPTSA) will be hosting Dr. Harley Rotbart, professor and vice chair of pediatrics at the University of Colorado and author of the national best selling book, No Regrets Parenting––Turning Long Days and Short Years into Cherished Moments with your Kids, Wednesday, February 20 at 6:45 p.m., in the Dana Hills High School Porthole Theater. No Regrets Parenting is about time management with kids, from crib through college. But it’s not like other “time management books.” Those are geared for efficiency with kids rather than for intimacy with them, for organizing rather than optimizing the time parents spend with their kids. How to get everything done is not the same as how to make the time spent with kids more meaningful and memorable. This is a book about capturing the precious moments of parenting that otherwise are lost in the name of efficiency. It will guide you in taking the mundane, exhausting routines of parenthood and turning them into special parenting events. It’s all about redefining “quality time.” Dr. Rotbart is Professor and Vice Chair of Pediatrics at the Univ. of Colorado, where he has been pediatric specialist for the past 30 years. He has been named to Best Doctors in America every year since 1996. He has more than 175 medical and scientific publications, and this is his 3rd book for parents. He serves on the Advisory Boards of Parents Magazine and Parents.com and regularly appears in major national media as an authority on child health. Visit his website: www.noregretsparenting.com. Questions? Please contact Michele Langham, malangham@att.net, or Gayle Paride, gparide@pacbell.net.

Registration flyers can be downloaded at www.cucptsa.com or can be found in the school office. [tailor as appropriate for your school]

Location: Dana Hills High School, 33333 Golden Lantern, Dana Point

Cost: $5.00 Advance Registration (Through February 16th)

$10.00 at the door

To RSVP, please send your check made payable to “CUCPTSA” to 2 San Simeon, Laguna Niguel, 92677.
