HALF WAY! Can you believe it? We’re at the halfway mark in the school year. Congratulations! Now is the time that we continue to reach and grow. These young scholars are in their learning groove and we take advantage of this by continually raising the bar. They always rise to what is expected of them and we look forward to seeing how high we can fly!
CONGRATULATIONS TO BERGESON TEACHER OF THE YEAR—-CELESTE GRAY! Mrs. Gray has been teaching at Bergeson for 22 years and is beloved by so many. She has taught in grades Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and is now a 3rd grade teacher. Mrs. Gray is also an Elementary Teaching Assistant Principal and handles a variety of special duties including all textbook orders, assigning the parking lot and recess assignment schedules for teachers and other tasks in addition to her teaching duties. The Teacher of the Year is very special because she was voted to this position by her teacher colleagues here at Bergeson. She will be honored at a Capistrano Unified School District ceremony a little later in the spring. Congratulations Mrs. Gray!
FATHER DAUGHTER BREAKFAST ON FEBRUARY 9 AT MIMI’S RESTAURANT: Bring your daughter to one of our favorite events of the year – the Father Daughter Breakfast at Mimi’s Restaurant (27430 La Paz Rd. next to In and Out), February 9 at 8 AM. The flyer went home today with the registration form. $20 for dads and $15 for daughters which includes a full breakfast, a photo with dads and daughters and a flower for dad to give his daughter. You are welcome to include grandpa, uncles or guardians, too. Deadline for reservation is 2/6.
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART ON 2/14: Children took home an envelope to acquire sponsorships for the Jump Rope for Heart program which will be held on 2/14 from 8:30 – 9:30 AM on the playground. All donations go directly to the American Heart Association to help with research and treatment of heart disease. Parents are welcome to join us for the Jump Rope Day and we especially need adults to help tally the jump-ropers and help with accounting. It’s a blast!
PARKING LOT: A few important parking lot reminders:
1. For BOTH parking lots, only a right turn is allowed before and after school. If you are leaving the Y lot, you must turn right and are not allowed to go into the condo complex across the street. This has been a problem with children crossing the street at the condo complex and also with cars that hold up the line in the Y lot to wait for time to cross the street into the condos. Again, only the right turn is allowed.
2. In the Y lot, children are to wait at the bus bench with the teacher supervisor. Children will wait for the car to come around the drive-through before getting in the car. We have several children who are walking across the parking lot to get into their parents car. Please help us to teach children to wait for their car to get around so that children are safe.
3. Never, ever, ever get out of your car when you are parked in the drive-thru lanes. If you need to get out of your car, park in the parking stall.
Thank you for your help in keeping our parking lot safe for all!
KIDS RUN THE OC MARATHON: Mr. Paine will be our staff advisor for students who would like to join this program. He will hold a mandatory parent meeting on Friday, Feb. 8th at the lunch tables at 2:05. This program will be open to any of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Parents can visit the website (kidsruntheoc@ocmarathon.com) to get more information. This will be an after-school program from 2:10-2:45, mainly on Fridays, where kids will be running and moving as we have fun and “Inspire Kids to Fitness”! Our final activity will be a one-mile run on Saturday, May 4th, 2013 at the OC Fair and Events Center, where we join thousands of elementary students to run our “Final Mile!” and receive our KROC medals. Our own Bergeson marathon team!

FUN RUN: It’s almost FUN RUN time! This year our Fun Run is going to be held March 22. This fun event helps raise important funds for all of our PTA programs and primarily our Science Lab! We are currently looking for corporate sponsors for this event. If your company would like to be on our event Tshirt, support a great cause, and get a tax write off, please contact our Fun Run Co-Chair, Trina Jonas, trinajonas@gmail.com, (949)633-8150. We have sponsorship levels of $100, $250, and $500. All sponsors have to be in by the end of January!
RALPH’S CONTRIBUTIONS: $1,891.38 was donated to Bergeson School because 154 school families have shopped at Ralph’s supermarket between September and November and their Ralph’s card is attached to our school! You can do this very easily by getting a scan sheet in the office. Take it to the cash register at Ralph’s and they will scan the sheet and attach it to your Ralph’s card. If you haven’t attached our school to your Ralph’s card, this is a super easy way for our school to raise money and we would truly appreciate it if you did. Any questions? Email Tammy Orrill at torrill24@gmail.com.
BERGESON VARIETY SHOW IS COMING: Auditions are scheduled for this Mon & Tues, Feb. 4 & 5, from 2:00-4:30 p.m. in the MPR. The Variety Show event will be held at Wood Canyon Elementary School on February 22.

BERGESON SHINING STARS are Bergeson kids who do something special to give back to their community in the form of service. If your child deserves a Shining Star, the applications are in the office so that you can fill it out. Our Shining Stars get a star in the MPR all year and a cool bracelet, too.
Brian F. donated his toys to an orphanage center in Las Vegas during winter break.
Megan L. spent Christmas Eve morning working at a donation center where she helped to organize and pass out donated gifts to many needy families.
Sophie W. and Kyndle W. arrive early every Friday morning so that they can help hand out Bergeson Bests for all of our families who donate their bottles and cans during Footprint Friday.
FOOTPRINT FRIDAY continues with the collection of plastic bottles and aluminum cans. All students will receive the Bergeson Best for bringing in a bag with our thanks for your donations! Please separate your bottles and cans. It saves our Green Team lots of time! Our children are the recipients of your donation with our thanks to you…
