In a program called, “What is Fashion?” the audience will learn that a woman’s clothes, and how they are designed, worn, and presented, have actually influenced politics – The Crescendo Chapter of The Guilds of Segerstrom Center for the Arts

Date:

Gioia Diliberto

For influential men, whose fashion statements consist of dark suits and the occasional imaginative tie, women’s fashions may not seem important. Yet Gioia Diliberto, author of five acclaimed books about Paris, women’s lives, and the great fashionita, Coco Chanel, proves that women’s clothes have played important roles in history.

As a frequent contributor to such publications as the New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and the Chicago Tribune, Diliberto’s well-researched articles on the role of fashion in society, make her an expert in how women’s clothes—including those of First Ladies–have, through the years, provoked compelling stories.

At 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 14, Gioia Diliberto will offer lovely slides to augment her talk on fashion, all presented at the Bower’s Museum in Santa Ana. The Crescendo Chapter of The Guilds of Segerstrom Center for the Arts, offers this program  for the benefit of Crescendo members and friends.

In a program called, “What is Fashion?” the audience will learn that a woman’s clothes, and how they are designed, worn, and presented, have actually influenced politics. Think of the endless pictures taken of Jacqueline Kennedy, the mistress of French fashion, whose photos are found even in current albums–all reminiscent of what was then called the charmed society of Camelot.

Tickets for the Diliberto event can be purchased at the Bowers Museum door for $30.  For more information, please contact Priscilla Selman at (714) 538-3602. All proceeds from this event support Segerstrom Center for the Arts and its education and community programs.
