Broadway legend Barbara Cook returns to Segerstrom Center to celebrate her 85th birthday year with a performance in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall on Saturday April 13 at 8 p.m. Cook’s charisma, charm and amazing talent have delighted audiences around the world for more than 50 years. To make the occasion even more special for her audience, Cook will remain on stage following the concert and answer questions that have been submitted via Facebook and Twitter. ASCAP Director of Musical Theatre Michael A. Kerker will be on hand to pose the questions to her.

The stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will make its Segerstrom Center premiere May 7 – 19, 2013. The musical features a score that includes the hit songs from the movie, that became Top Ten hits on the radio around the world, including the Academy Award®-winning title song “Flashdance – What a Feeling,” “Maniac,” “Manhunt” and “I Love Rock & Roll.” In addition to these, 16 brand new songs have been written for the stage with music by Robbie Roth and lyrics by Robert Cary and Robbie Roth.

Mexico’s Marionetas de la Esquina Brings the West Coast
Premiere of Sleeping Beauty Dreams to Segerstrom Center

The highly praised puppet theater company Marionetas de la Esquina returns to Segerstrom Center with its contemporary retelling of the classic fairytale Sleeping Beauty Dreams on April 20 and 21 in Samueli Theater. Written by award-winning playwright and puppeteer Amaranta Leyva, Sleeping Beauty Dreams is co-commissioned by the Kennedy Center. Marionetas de la Esquina’s humorous storytelling and whimsical puppetry tells the story of the famous and overprotected princess who yearns to break free. She goes in search of finding true love and, in the process, her true self.

 

Award-Winning Broadway Star Betty Buckley 
Appears in Segerstrom Center Cabaret Series

Star of stage, screen and television, actress and singer Betty Buckley closes Segerstrom Center’s 2012-13 Cabaret Series May 16 – 18 in Samueli Theater. Buckley will perform song standards as well as selections from her recent album, Ah, Men! The Boys of Broadway, which features hits from West Side StoryAnnie Get Your GunThe FantasticksLa Cage aux FollesRoberta,Sweeney Todd and many others. In the inimicable Buckley fashion, she will charm audiences with whimsical behind-the-scenes stories from her exciting career.
