SENIOR SCHOLARS

On Wednesday, May 22 there will be a meeting at lunch, in the big gym, for all seniors who believe they have met valedictorian, academic distinction, or AP Scholar status.  Below are the requirements for each of these honors using all semester grades and current 12 week progress report grades.

Valedictorian status is a 4.0 or higher weighted academic 9-12 GPA.

Academic Distinction status is a 3.5 to 3.99 weighted academic 9-12 GPA.

AP Scholar Distinction is a 3 or higher on 3 or more AP Exams.

We would like all those who believe they have met one or more of these requirements to attend this meeting.  We will verify your status so you may be recognized at our Senior Awards Ceremony on June 4th.  Students may download a copy of their transcript from their Parent Portal account.  See instructions in the section below if you do not have an account.

Parents of Sophomores: CAHSEE SCORES ARE IN!

To check your child’s California High School Exit Exam scores go to our Parent Portal (not School Loop).  If you do not have a Parent Portal Account read below.

Aliso Niguel High School sophomores continued to pass the CAHSEE at an extremely high rate. Of the students who took the test on March 12th & 13th96% passed both the English and the Mathematics portion. Not only did students check off one of the requirements to graduate but they also contributed towards elevating Aliso Niguel’s Academic Performance Index yet another year.  Students will be taking the STAR/CST exams May 16 and 17.  We know our students will continue this type of success next week!

If you have not created a Parent Portal account please reference the letter and codes that were sent home with the latest report card or follow the instructions below.

Parent Portal – Instant Access to Your Student’s School Records

We are encouraging all parents and students who have not yet done so to register for a Parent Portal account as soon as possible in order to take advantage of the options available through this system. In the 2013-2014 school year, the Capistrano Unified School District will institute a paperless report card system.

To create a Parent Portal account, you will need three pieces of information.
1. your home phone number
2. your student’s identification number
3. Verif Pass Code

Please log onto abi.capousd.org to create your account. There are written directions and a 4-minute video explaining the process.

Parent Portal is the latest resource being used by our schools to keep parents informed. You may already have access to School Loop, which allows you to access your child’s homework assignments and test scores and contact his or her teacher(s).

In addition to getting CAHSEE scores, Parent Portal is a tool that will allow you to re-register your child online for the 2013-14 school year; update emergency contact information; receive real-time period-by-period attendance data; and review and print report cards, class schedules, unofficial transcripts and graduation status.

Parent Portal and School Loop are important tools our teachers and staff use to keep you informed about your child’s progress. Registering for Parent Portal will keep your child’s important information at your fingertips.

If you have questions about this process, please contact ANHS at (949) 831-5590.

ATHLETICS

The Varsity Baseball team their continues playoff run after beating Claremont HS this past Friday 7-1.  They now travel to Valencia HS on Tuesday at 3:15pm.  If successful the next game will take place on Friday.  The location for this game is unknown at this time.

This past Saturday at the CIF Track and Field Championships senior Danielle Darden put her name in the record books as the fastest female sprinter in the history of Orange County.  She placed second in the 100m to a girl who has run the fastest 100m in the nation this year, running a 11.56.  She then placed 3rd in the 200m running a blazing 24.04.  She has qualified to run next week at the Masters meet and will certainly qualify for the State Meet.

Also at this time of the year its not too early to start thinking about getting your 2013-2014 athletic clearance completed and turned in to Mrs. Schlesinger in the front office.  You can download the clearance packet from the “athletic” section on the schools web site.  If you have trouble getting an appointment with your regular physician you can walk in to South Coast Medical at 5 Journey, Aliso Viejo and help support ANHS Athletics.  They will donate half of the cost of the physical back to the athletic department.
