Ocean Institute Offers Evening Bioluminescence Cruises
Learn about the exciting luminous underwater world just waiting to shine!
The Ocean Institute will offer evening Bioluminescence cruises on Saturday, July 6, August 10, September 14, 8 – 10:30 p.m and October 5 & November 2, 7:30 – 10 p.m. The cruises provide a unique opportunity to learn about the remarkable ability of some marine animals to glow in the dark and to witness this curiously beautiful phenomenon.

Blue Whale Season
Blue whale watching season has come to Southern California; join Ocean Institute scientists for the search for the world’s largest animal! The Ocean Institute will offer Blue Whale Safari cruises which take participants to the feeding grounds of the great blues. For ages 8+, under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Upcoming dates: June 29, July 6, 20 & 27, August 10, 17, 24 & 31 and September 14, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Family Science Nights
The Ocean Institute will present four Family Science Nights in 2013, on July 9 & 23, and August 6 & 20, 6 – 8 p.m. Presentations will include a talk by a distinguished local scientist, activities for children and a lab to introduce the whole family to the fascinating world of science. Please join us as we survey the stars, explore the seas and dive into the surf zone.
Tall Ships Festival
The Ocean Institute will present its 29th annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival on Saturday and Sunday, September 7 & 8, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Come and explore the majesty and wonder of tall ships through the smells, sounds and sights of real working tall ships. Interactive living-history encampments, including blacksmiths, scrimshaw artists, knot tiers, and the infamous Port Royal Privateers, are sure to entertain and amaze guests of all ages.
Founded in 1977, the Ocean Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to ocean preservation through education, setting the standard for educational excellence and serving as a leading resource for universities, museums, teachers and all others seeking to increase their knowledge of the ocean.
