City honors local veterans with special dinner

The event at the Aliso Viejo Conference Center was the city’s way of paying homage to the men and women who have bravely served our country. “The 48,000 people in Aliso Viejo are thankful for you and your services to our country,” said Mayor Carmen Cave. “Whether you served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard or any branch, whether you volunteered, were drafted or served in peace time, we cannot thank you enough for your service and sacrifices.” Each veteran received a city certificate and was asked to recite his or her branch and military occupational specialty. Guest speaker Captain Bob Meyer said he has given some 470 speeches since his service to our nation in World War II. He spoke about some of his experiences while guests dined on Caesar salad and a rich chicken pasta Alfredo dish. Mayor Carmen Cave received a special POW/MIA flag from a local veteran that was flown here from Minneapolis. “This is just a special night and it’s our honor and pleasure to give this small token of appreciation and recognition to all of you,” Community Services Director Karen Crocker told the crowd.
