Local youth organizations sought to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at City Council meetings

Date:

Local Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, school and sports groups and other youth organizations interested in the opportunity to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of City Council meetings are encouraged to contact City Hall.

For the past several years, different youth organizations have been starting each City Council meeting by leading the council and members of the public in the Pledge of Allegiance.  The young boys and girls are introduced by Mayor Phil Tsunoda, receive city pins and a group photo is taken to memorize the moment.

“Involving our kids in civic activities benefits them and our city alike,” Tsunoda said.  “Reciting the Pledge of Allegiance gives these youngsters exposure to city government and reinforces the importance of civic pride and involvement in our community, which is part of our Aliso Proud theme for 2014 … and it’s really enjoyable for everyone.”

The City Council meets at 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month in the Council Chambers at City Hall, which is located at 12 Journey.  Organizations interested in leading the pledge should contact Kelly Tokarski, the city’s public information officer consultant, at 949-395-4448 or ktokarski@cityofalisoviejo.com.
