Kaleidoscope Center together with co-host The City of Mission Viejo and The Friends of the Arts are pairing up once again to bring the South Orange County Community Family Art Day on Saturday, April 26 from Noon to 5 p.m., an afternoon of fun activities for all ages as well as an opportunity to enjoy The Bears About Town art Collection.
Kaleidoscope Center has been home to The Bears About Town Exhibit over the last year. But just like in the popular children’s story book, the bears are looking for a new home and they’ve found it at the Oso (Bear) Creek Trail. The community is invited to celebrate the progress of these magnificent life size bears during the Family Art Day where they are soon to begin their journey to their next home.

*Create your art at Kaleidoscope through our many art stations
*Community-based art with Circle Painting founder and artist Hiep Nguyen, a unique, interactive and group-based opportunity to create large-scale art using circles
*Face painting
*Children paint their own keepsake bear for a small fee (Proceeds to benefit the World Wildlife Foundation)
*Music from local schools and other performing artists
*Facebook contest “Calling All Artists” to participate in a community Chalk Art competition. Post a picture of your art on Kaleidoscope Facebook and Instagram and the person with the most likes will be the winner. The winner to be announced at the Arts Alive event on May 4.
Mission Viejo’s Oso Creek Trail is where one of the last magnificent brown bears that once roamed the county was sighted. Although the bears disappeared decades ago, their artistic representation can be seen on the Oso Creek Trail once more. In addition to the beautiful bronze bears who roam parts of Oso Viejo Park, the Bears About Town will soon inhabit the community along Marguerite Parkway as honored mascots of the Oso Creek Trail.
Family Art Day sets the stage for the upcoming Arts Alive Festival and Street Painting event in May. This year’s festival – May 3-4 – celebrates the 1970s with a plethora of cultural, artistic and environmental activities and top-notch entertainment.
