Signup now for free emergency preparedness program
Community members interested in learning how to be more prepared in the event of an emergency or natural disaster can take advantage of a free program the city has been offering for the past few years.
Applications are now available for the city’s Citizens Emergency Preparedness Academy that begins March 16.
During the free nine-week session, participants learn everything from earthquake preparedness, 9-1-1 dispatch, fire safety and Neighborhood Watch to light search & rescue, disaster psychology, terrorism, First Aid and more. Classes will be held on consecutive Mondays from 6 to 9:30 p.m. through May 11 at City Hall, 12 Journey. A special graduation will be held at the Orange County Fire Authority’s “Fire Regional Operational Training Center” in Tustin.
The program’s benefits are endless: It increases disaster readiness, provides emergency skills that people can use in day-to-day emergencies, enhances the bond between government and community and increases community spirit.
The academy is open to adult residents who can commit to attending the nine-week course. No childcare will be provided.
To register for the informative and beneficial academy, contact Aliso Viejo’s Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Rhyner at 949-635-1809 or srhyner@cityofalisoviejo.com.
