Four ceramic students from the Festival of Arts Youth Arts Education classes received honors from the 17th Annual National K-12 Ceramic Exhibition in Milwaukee, WI.
These students were selected from hundreds of entries nationwide and had their work exhibited at the Wisconsin Center in March.
Aliso Viejo kindergarten student, Caden Hallahan, received an Honorable Mention Award and Curators Book Award (given to only 10 of the over 500 exhibitors) for his piece “Medium Rare.”
Munroe Kraus, a second grader from San Clemente received an Artistic Merit Award for his work “Penguin Cup.” Also receiving prizes for their artwork were Aliso Viejo 2nd grader Phillip Stavisski and Laguna Beach 8th grader Michael Tanaka.

Festival of Arts ceramic instructor Monica Dunham was also awarded the Teacher Award honoring the late American ceramicist Daniel Rhodes. Selected by the scholarship committee of the organization’s foundation, Monica received second place of all the teachers that submitted work for the ceramic competition.
“I’m thrilled about my kids getting these awards,” said Monica Dunham, “It just makes me so excited to teach these classes again this summer!”
The17th Annual National K12 Ceramic Exhibition is the premier juried ceramic competition for Kindergarten through Grade 12 (K-12) students in the United States. Designed to showcase the best K12 ceramic work made in the country, the exhibition takes place in conjunction with the annual conference of The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts.
The Festival of Arts is now accepting reservations for Youth Arts Education classes, available July 7 – August 29, Monday through Friday at 11am and 1pm. In addition to ceramics, classes are available in painting, printmaking, jewelry, and more. Art classes open to children ages 5-12. $10 materials fee per child per class.
