The public is invited to enjoy “42,” the 2013 biopic of the life of Jackie Robinson on Sunday, May 18 at Mission Viejo City Hall

Date:

42 the film Every April 15, Robinson’s uniform number 42 is worn by all major league players in honor of “Jackie Robinson Day.”

The PG-13 rated film, which airs at 2 p.m., is sponsored by the City’s Community of Character Committee. The movie coincides with May’s character trait of “moral courage.”

To break the major league color barrier in 1947, Brooklyn Dodger President Branch Rickey (played in the film by Harrison Ford) selected Robinson because of his extraordinary character as well as his athletic ability.  These outstanding qualities led to Robinson’s selection to Time Magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People of the 20th Century.

Character educators Elaine Portnoy and Bob Hayes lead a brief discussion following the film, which is shown on a theater-size screen with theater-style seating and surround-sound at 200 Civic Center, just across from the Mission Viejo Library.
