“Art Talks” continue on Thursday, July 24 at the Festival of Arts with “Artists in Their Own Words.” This discussion will examine how the arts affect our lives and inform our experiences. The panel will be led by exhibitor Lindsay Buchman and include painter Michael Harnish, mixed-media artist Bruce Burr, and jeweler Adam Neeley.

Lindsay Buchman is a visual artist whose work focuses on printmaking and installation-based media. Her work has been shown in exhibitions nationally and internationally including: Robert Blackburn Gallery, NY; SHO Gallery, NY; The Danforth Museum of Art, MA; LA Art core Brewery Annex, CA; The Torrance Art Museum, CA; University Art Museum Long Beach, CA; Wells Fargo, CA; Temple University, Italy; Circolo degli Artisti, Italy. She received her BFA in Printmaking from the School of Art, California State University Long Beach. Lindsay teaches for Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, Irvine Fine Arts Center and Heart of Los Angeles.

Michael Harnish studied at Laguna College of Art & Design in Southern California where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting in 2008 and his Master of Arts degree in Fine Arts in 2010. During his studies, Michael was introduced to a classical education in fine art. Michael Harnish teaches courses at California State Long Beach as well as serving as an advisor for students in the MFA program at Laguna College of Art & Design. He currently resides in Laguna Beach, CA.

As a young boy, Adam Neeley often went rock collecting in Colorados backcountry with his father. By the age of 12, he was teaching himself the rudiments of gemstone cutting and silver smithing using Southwestern motifs. Neeley refined his platinum-smithing skills and learned computer-aided design under Dominic Ventura of the Fashion Institute of Technology. In 2006, Neeley opened his flagship art jewelry gallery in Laguna Beach and in July 2012 opened his second gallery in San Franciscos Union Square. His jewelry has received more than 10 best-in-show and first place awards in shows from Beverly Hills to Miami as well as eight jewelry industry awards.

Bruce Burr spent his formative years in Wyoming, but set out to see the world and landed in Paris. There he worked in the haute couture at Yves Saint Laurent and developed his skills in the world of design. He returned to the United States and expanded his work designing custom clothing, theater murals, and theater scenery. His artwork has surprising and whimsical elements, often evoking the extravagance of our culture. He currently resides in Laguna Beach, CA.

This is one of several topics discussed at the Festival’s weekly Art Talks: A Lecture Series. Each Thursday between July 10 and August 28, Festival artists lead conversations about their medium, inspiration, and careers in this fascinating and stimulating series.
