
Mission Viejo, CA-The Division of Fine Arts and Media Technology is thrilled to present the following free events throughout the fall semester at Saddleback College.
On Saturday, October 11th at 2:30 pm in FA 101, the Department of Music presents violinist Haroutune Bedelian in a violin master class. Bedelian is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, London, where, at age 20, he won the first prize in the BBC Violin Competition.
He has performed in major cities, festivals, and concert halls throughout North and South America, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle East, and has appeared in numerous radio and television broadcasts. Violin students will perform.
On Thursday, October 16th at noon in FA 101, the Department of Music presents Tim Hall, classical trumpeter, who will perform the music of composer Eric Ewazen with Saddleback faculty Yorgos Kouritas on violin, Joey Sellers on trombone, and accompanied by Cathy Tibbetts on piano.
Hall is a freelance musician in the Southern California area and has performed in a variety of ensembles including the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, L.A. Opera, Orange County’s Pacific Symphony, Opera Pacific, California Philharmonic, Long Beach Opera, Pasadena Symphony, Long Beach Municipal Band, Disneyland Band, and the Laguna Beach Pageant of the Masters Orchestra. He has toured the United States, Europe, and Asia with various groups and lived in Japan for five years while performing at the Huis Ten Bosh resort.
On October 29th through November 20th, the Saddleback Art Gallery is pleased to present the Saddleback College photography students in their first official Art Gallery exhibition. A wide-range of photography will be displayed. On Saturday, November 1st at 2:30 pm, the Department of Music presents a piano recital with concert pianist Scott Holden. Dr. Holden is actively engaged as soloist, chamber musician, and Professor and Chair of the Piano Department at Brigham Young University. He holds music degrees from the University of Michigan, Manhattan School of Music, and the Julliard School, where he was awarded the Horowitz Prize. In addition to his American studies, he also spent a year studying and performing in Budapest at the Liszt Academy where he was a Fulbright Scholar.
On Thursday, November 13th at noon, the Department of Music presents Sheriffs of Schroedingham in FA 101. This traditional blues duo with Ross Garren on harmonica and John Schroeder, guitar and vocals, will bring down the house with their electric sound.
On Saturday, November 15th at 2:00 p.m., the Department of Music presents a violin master class with UCLA violin professor Guillaume Sutre. Guillaume Sutre began his studies in Douai, France; he entered the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris at age 14. Mr. Sutre is also a passionate advocate of music of his time, and regularly performs world premieres of composers such as Michele Reverdy, Isabelle Fraisse, Regis Campo, and Paul Chihara. In addition to his performing activities, Mr. Sutre is passionately committed to transmitting his knowledge and sharing his concert experience with musicians of younger generations.
On Tuesday, November 25th at 7:30 p.m. in the McKinney Theatre, the Saddleback College Community Chorale, soloists and Saddleback College music alumni will present A Concert of Thanksgiving. This free concert will accept donations to benefit Mary’s Kitchen, a non-profit program that feed our disadvantaged community.
The Art Department is thrilled to present its 36th Annual Student Art Holiday Sale 2014 in the Saddleback College Art Gallery. The sale takes place on December 5th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., December 6th and 7th from noon to 8:00 p.m., and December 8th and 9th from noon to 6:00 p.m. Fabulous handcrafted gifts all made by Saddleback College art students at very reasonable prices. Come shop early and purchase unique holiday presents for someone special or for yourself. On display will be ceramics, sculpture, paintings, prints and jewelry featuring one-of-a-kind pieces and handmade glass beads.
On Thursday, December 11th at noon, a Student Composition Recital will be held in the McKinney Theatre. Voice, instrumental, piano, and jazz students perform in recital. Come see why Music at Saddleback College is so highly regarded – it’s our very talented students!
On Friday, December 12th at 9:00 a.m. in the McKinney Theatre, Saddleback music students perform chamber music.
