Orange County native David Wagner – the top-ranked wheelchair tennis champ – will compete in the UNIQLO Wheelchair Doubles Masters November 5-9 at Mission Viejo’s Marguerite Tennis Pavilion.
Wagner is the number-one ranked quads singles player in the world, and with his partner, Nick Taylor, he is the top doubles player. Wagner and Taylor will be among 36 of the world’s greatest wheelchair tennis athletes to compete in Mission Viejo.
Currently based at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Wagner grew up in Walla Walla, Washington and was active in tennis and basketball in his youth. When he was 21, he became a quadriplegic after an accident while playing Frisbee in Redondo Beach. Wagner never let the accident slow him down.
He took up table tennis during rehabilitation and ended up winning a national competition three years in a row. Shortly after that, Wagner went back to his roots and began playing wheelchair tennis. By 2002, he was the number-one ranked quadriplegic player in the country.
Don’t miss the awesome opportunity to see this talented and inspirational athlete in action November 5-9.
