“Nature in Watercolors” Exhibit at foaSOUTH October 11, 2014 – January 5, 2015

The exhibit showcases the work of long-time Festival artist Jacquie Moffett, whose artwork is included in the Festival of Arts Permanent Art collection. The public is invited to a meet the artist at a special reception on November 6 from 6 – 9pm during First Thursdays Art Walk in Laguna Beach.

Jacquie Moffett came to love art through her father, who sketched, worked in pastels, and cut family Christmas cards in linoleum blocks. Inspired by a film illustrating Rex Brandt’s watercolor techniques, She signed up for Brandt’s summer workshops. There, in addition to Brandt she studied with George Post, Barse Miller and Joan Irving (Brandt’s wife).

Over the years Jacquie has continued her pursuit of excellence by taking printmaking classes and watercolor classes from highly regarded artists such as Serisawa and Roger Armstrong. She has exhibited in the Festival of Arts since 1968 and shows watercolors, etchings and unique watercolor-collage combinations. She holds the distinction of being the Festival’s longest exhibiting artists, showing her work for over 45 years.

Jacquie’s landscapes are characterized by clarity of color and subject and remarkable illusion of depth and space. Fascinated by architecture, she focuses on unusual buildings, towers, windows and roofs. Winner of numerous awards, her works are included in exhibitions and private collections throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, New Zealand and Japan.

“The detail, clarity, and quality of the paintings on exhibit exemplify Jacquie’s talent and is the very reason why her work is part of the Festival’s Permanent Collection,” said exhibit curator Pat Sparkuhl. “Her unique perspective, years of experience and skill with watercolors is a delight to view.”
