Director of Instrumental Studies Yorgos Kouritas at Saddleback College is thrilled to announce a master class presented by violinist Haroutune Bedelian on Saturday, October 11th from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Fine Arts 101.
Saddleback violin students as well as students from the community will be performing under the tutelage of Maestro Bedelian. Admission is free and the master class is open to the public.
Haroutune Bedelian is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, London, where, at age 20, he won the first prize in the BBC Violin Competition. He has performed in major cities, festivals, and concert halls throughout North and South America, the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Middle East, and has appeared in numerous radio and television broadcasts.
Among his critical accolades are the following: “Alert, subtle artist as well as a superb instrumentalist” (New York Times). “The result was a powerful music making, virtuosity going hand in hand with unswerving loyalty to the composer” (The Strad Magazine).
“Virtuosity comes to him as second nature, but it is used as a means to the interpretive freedom and sense of style that characterizes his playing above all else” (The London Times). “Refined and sensitive musician. Controlled, clean and effortless playing making light of the most formidable difficulties” (The London Guardian).
“Technical and musical resources of virtuoso class” (Los Angeles Times). Prior to joining the faculty at UC Irvine, Mr. Bedelian was Professor of Violin at the Royal Academy of Music, London.
Saddleback’s Instrumental Studies Department is privileged to have some of the finest musicians of the Pacific Symphony as its instructors. This semester the department will be hosting master classes by distinguished violinists such as Haroutune Bedelian and Guillaume Sutre.
Previously, master classes have been taught by Martin Chalifour and William Fitzpatrick. The Symphony Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble tackle some of the most difficult pieces such as Verdi’s and Brahms’ Requiems.
Dr. Kouritas is also teaching violin, viola, and chamber music and has performed recently several violin recitals. Last April, he was honored to work with Carl St. Clair in the Ithaca Conducting Master class.
In June, he was selected by the Baltimore Symphony to work in a master class with Gerard Schwarz (former Seattle Symphony’s Music Director). http://www.saddleback.edu/fa/instrumental-music
