Fruits of students’ labor benefiting orphaned pets

Date:

Students making dog bedsHomeless pets at the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center are more cozy thanks to the efforts of local elementary students.

As part of the Valencia Elementary Outreach Program, several students handmade dog beds by knotting and stuffing pet-themed fleece material. The kids also made toys for the orphaned cats.

Led by volunteer Teddi Sadler, the PTA-sponsored outreach program regularly brings together about 30 students in kindergarten through six grade to make a positive difference in the community by helping others.

Along with beds and toys, the kids designed and colored thank-you cards for shelter staff and volunteers and handed out gift bags and goodies.

“The animals and kids had fun getting to know each other during the students’ visit to the Mission Viejo Animals Services Center,” said Animal Services Supervisor Brynn Lavison.  “We are grateful for their efforts.”
