It’s Your Estate: Ocean Institute to Present Free Estate Planning Workshops

March 12, 2009, NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The Ocean Institute is pleased to present a free series of estate planning workshops moderated by private fiduciary Peter Kote on consecutive Mondays, April 13-June 8, 1:30 – 3 p.m. (except May 25). The purpose of the series is to promote awareness of financial and estate plans, show how to find competent and ethical advisors and teach about tax-wise charitable giving. Topics include:

April 13 – Introduction/Quiz, Peter Kote
April 20 – Estate Planning Basics, Richard Ashworth
April 27 – Advanced Heath Care Directive; Conservatorship & Power of Attorney Over Assets, Donna Bashaw
May 4 – Advanced Estate Planning, Leslie Daff
May 11 – IRA; 401k, 403b,and 457 plans distributions, Toni Degasperin
May 18 – Charitable Income and Tax Planning Issue, Jeff Swanson
June 1 – Being a Trustee and Executor, Peter Kote and Leonard Whitehorn
June 8 – Case Study/Review

Founded in 1977, the Ocean Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to ocean preservation through education, setting the standard for educational excellence and serving as a leading resource for universities, museums, teachers and all others seeking to increase their knowledge of the ocean. The Ocean Institute is open to the general public on weekends, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Cost: $6.50 adults, $4.50 children (ages 4-12), Ocean Institute members free.
