Directed by Hal Landon, these one-act monologues feature distinct female characters who stumble toward some sort of insight while “talking with” the audience or some unseen listener.
The collection of female monologues include:
Fifteen Minutes: An actress talks to her mirror while putting on make-up and dressing before going on stage in fifteen minutes.
Scraps. A thirty-five year old housewife dressed as the Patchwork Girl of Oz talks to her vacuum cleaner.
Clear Glass Marbles. A young woman holds a crystal bowl filled with ninety clear glass marbles while talking about her dying mother.
Audition. An actress in her late twenties is nervously talking in an audition while holding her cat on a leash.
Rodeo. A young woman, in country western attire and a Lone Star beer at her side, talks about how rodeo’s going to “hell in a hand-basket.”
Twirler. A young woman baton twirler talks about how she started twirling when she was six but never really twirled until her hand was crushed by a horse named Big Blood Red.
Lamps. An older woman stands among a dozen lamps of various sizes and talks about why she is drawn to light as she ages.
Handler. A young woman with a handmade wooden box in front of her talks about the snakes inside the box and how she’s a handler like her Dada.
Dragons. A young woman, nine-months pregnant lying on a hospital trolley waiting to go into the delivery room, prays to St. Margaret, patron saint of childbirth, to let her and her baby live.
Marks. A woman in her early 40s, covered with tattoos, talks about how the scar on her check changed her life for the better.
