Ocean Institute Celebrates International Surfing Day 2009 with Special Surfing/Beach-Themed Activities
April 1, 2009, DANA POINT, Calif. – The Ocean Institute will join in the worldwide observance of International Surfing Day on Saturday, June 20, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The day will feature exhibits and presentations by staff and volunteers on water quality and beach closures, animal adaptations within the surf zone, wave formations and “dry” surfing instructions on how to catch a wave.
Established by the Surfrider Foundation and Surfing Magazine, International Surfing Day was created to blend the founders’ love of surfing with a desire to create an awareness of the importance of preserving our ocean environment.
The cost to enter the Ocean Institute is $6.50 adults, $4.50 children (ages 3-12), Ocean Institute members free. Those who participate in one of the nearby beach-cleanups beginning at 9 a.m. will be given free admission.
