MV Residents will receive a call Thursday as part of emergency system test

Date:

alertocenews 1x1As part of the Great California Shakeout this week, Mission Viejo residents will receive a call beginning at 10:15 a.m. on October 15 that will test the City’s regional mass notification system known as AlertOC. The City of Mission Viejo launched the program in 2008. This is the eighth annual test of the system.

The test is held in conjunction with the Great California ShakeOut earthquake drill.  The phone message will urge residents to prepare for real-life emergencies by registering their cell phone numbers and email addresses at www.AlertOC.com for the best chance to receive vital, timely information when away from home.  The AlertOC link is also available on the City’s website atwww.cityofmissionviejo.org.

Emergencies can happen at any time.  A wildfire could spread or a flood could close the roads to a neighborhood while residents are away from home.  In these instances, AlertOC is a critical link for residents to immediately learn of any required actions.

For more information or to register alternate phone numbers, visit cityofmissionviejo.org and click on the AlertOC icon.  Residents can also visit the AlertOC booth at the South Orange County Disaster Preparedness Expo on Saturday, October 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at Oso Viejo Community Park, 24932 Veterans Way. The expo is part of the annual Walk Against Drugs event.
