Halloween family fun! Phantoms of the Orchestra – Oct. 24

Date:

Phantoms of the Orchestra

A Halloween SpooktacularFeaturing the Magic Circle Mime Company

Join us for Halloween mischief and fun at Pacific Symphony’s first Family Musical Mornings of the 2015-16 season, when the maestro and his terrified assistant use the power of the baton to control a ghoulish orchestra! The story of the “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” springs vividly to life in this concert, which also features instantly recognizable selections from the soundtrack of the Disney movie, “Fantasia.” You’ll experience Bach’s thundering Toccata and Fugue, Mussorgsky’s haunting “Night on Bald Mountain” and more.

The orchestra will be dressed in their Halloween best, so don’t forget to wear your costume!

“‘Phantoms of the Orchestra’ has music that is both haunting and mysterious to put you in the Halloween spirit,” says Pacific Symphony’s new assistant conductor, Roger Kalia. “The Mussorgsky features screaming witches and monsters played by the woodwinds and brass, and the music depicts a witches’ Sabbath on top of a mountain, while the Dukas features a trio of bassoons playing the theme of a spellbound broom. I love conducting these works because all of the different sections of the orchestra are featured. Not only that, the music is highly rhythmic with a variety of sounds and moods, and each piece tells a story.”

Musical Carnival

Children and families are invited to attend the interactive Musical Carnival in the concert hall lobby, at 9 a.m. for 10 a.m. concertgoers and 12:15 p.m. for 11:30 a.m. concertgoers.

Meet musicians from Pacific Symphony and Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, learn how the pipes in a theater organ make different pitches, create your own magical baton and learn fun facts about the composers featured on the concert. Plus, you can listen to an ensemble from South Pointe Middle School and have your picture taken in front of a haunted theater organ!
