LAGUNA NIGUEL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DESTINATION IMAGINATION TEAM TO COMPETE IN THE GLOBAL FINALS
A Team of third and fourth grade students from Laguna Niguel Elementary School will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee on May 20th to compete in the Global Destination Imagination Challenge. Destination Imagination is an international organization for elementary through college age students that teaches life skills, fosters creativity and teamwork, and expands imagination through team-based creative problem solving.
The Laguna Niguel Elementary School Destination Imagination (DI) Team, The Masterminds, won the California State Championship DI Competition, in their respective division, qualifying them to compete at the Global Finals at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville from May 20 – 23. The five member team includes Jaeyub, Alexis, Victoria, Megan, and Amanda, all Laguna Niguel residents.
The team is working to raise funds to support travel, registration and participation at the event and have several fundraising activities planned. The students will be hosting Friday afternoon bake sales and are working in conjunction with the LNES Foundation to host some other events. The Masterminds visited the Laguna Niguel City Council Meeting on Tuesday evening to request assistance in their fundraising effort and were excited when the Council approved a $1,000 sponsorship for their team.
The City Council has traditionally provided sponsorships for various youth organizations to travel out of the area to participate in various competitions. Anyone wishing to contribute to this DI fundraising effort may contact the school at 234-5308.
