Aliso Viejo recognizes its devoted volunteers

Date:

The city of Aliso Viejo hosted its 10th annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at the Aliso Viejo Center, recognizing individuals and groups for their dedicated service to the community.

In addition to honoring volunteers who support Aliso Viejo Police Services and the Boys & Girls Club, certificates of recognition were given to members of Aliso Niguel High School’s Key Club, Leo Club and National Honor Society, Boy Scout Troop 700, Grace Hills Church and Fluor Corporation.

Mayor Mike Munzing, Mayor Pro Tem Dave Harrington and Council Members Ross Chun, Bill Phillips, Phil Tsunoda and City Manager Dave Doyle were on hand for the festivities that included dinner, dessert and a small gift for the volunteers.

“Someone once said the ultimate expression of generosity is not in giving of what you have, but in giving of who you are,” Munzing told the crowd of more than 70 people. “Indeed, as a community volunteer, you ultimately give of yourselves for others. Volunteerism is one of those activities that many just don’t have time for, but the dedicated – like you – simply make room in your lives and in your hearts to care for this City and your fellow citizens.”

The city’s Community Volunteer Program, developed in 2007, was established to connect residents with volunteer opportunities, including the Community Cup Golf Tournament, Aliso Creek cleanup, special events, PALS program and the Boys and Girls Club program at Iglesia Community Park.
