The community is invited to commemorate Memorial Day during a special ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 30 at the Mission Viejo Civic Center, 200 Civic Center.
Retired Marine Corps Sergeant Major Anthony Sammartino will serve as the keynote speaker. He spent 26 years in the Marines Corps and was decorated with the Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Service Medal and Legion of Merit award. He will be joined by Mike Chamberlin, a Vietnam veteran who served in the 9th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army.
The City’s Memorial Day ceremony will include a color guard; rifle salute from Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post 6024; Taps by Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy David Sa; and a musical performance.
The American Heroes Tribute Banners honoring veterans who have died in combat will serve as the backdrop of Mission Viejo’s Memorial Day tribute. The 3-foot by 9-foot banners pay homage to American soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Refreshments compliments of Bagels and Brew, Broken Yolk and Costco will be served after the ceremony in the City Hall Saddleback Room.
