Celebrate our nation’s independence at the Mission Viejo Activity Committee’s 4th of July Street Faire and Fireworks Spectacular.
The fun family event is from noon to 9 p.m. on Olympiad just above Lake Mission Viejo.
The Street Faire boasts more than 50 crafters, a fun zone with rides and games, food booths and talented musicians. Of course, the highlight of the event is the spectacular fireworks display at 9 p.m.

So you think you can spell? If you’ve ever wanted to participate in a spelling bee, now’s your chance.
As part of the Adult SummerRead Program, the Mission Viejo Library is hosting its first Adult Spelling Bee at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 15 in the City Council Chamber, at 200 Civic Center (just across from the library).
The spelling bee will give adults the chance to challenge their skills, expand their vocabulary, have fun and win forever bragging rights. Refreshments and light snacks will be served.

Ten businesses that are part of the new Union Market Mission Viejo are expected to host the next Mission Viejo Chamber of Commerce mixer on July 21.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Kaleidoscope center between Riptide Rockin’ Sushi and Buffalo Wild Wings at 27741 Crown Valley Parkway.
Union Market Mission Viejo is a 27,000-square-foot space that includes Anchor Hitch, Diced, Oyo Shabu, Hummus Bowl, Dry Society, Milkbox and Lost Generation clothing store. Three more market businesses – Portola Coffee Roasters, Market 2 Plate and M’Ole and Beer – are currently under construction.
During chamber mixers, guests can enjoy refreshments and the chance to network with local business leaders and elected officials. Mixers are free for chamber members; $10 general admission. The City of Mission Viejo is now accepting applications for its Community Services Funding Program. Funds are available for nonprofit organizations serving Mission Viejo residents, with a focus on agencies providing human services or cultural art programs.

New and returning applicants are invited to a grant orientation training at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 11 at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center. City staff will discuss program policies and field questions.

Community members are invited to a special Digital Open House on Saturday, July 9.
In an effort to encourage reading and offer a valuable service, the Mission Viejo Library is hosting the free event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Heritage Room at 100 Civic Center.
Folks can drop by with their mobile devices and learn how to use digital books, audiobooks and magazines. Librarians will also show patrons how to access the Southern California Digital Library and use Overdrive.
