The city of Aliso Viejo has been recognized for excellence in financial reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, a nonprofit association that serves more than 17,000 government finance professionals across the country.
The city received a Certificate of Achievement – the highest recognition for governmental accounting and financial reporting – for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for fiscal year 2011-12. The city has received the award each year since it incorporated in 2001.
The prestigious award is based on a government agency demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate others to read its annual report. Receiving the recognition is a significant accomplishment by a government, its financial services staff and management.
This award comes on the heels of an award for excellence in governmental budgeting the city received from the organization in February. The city received a “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award” for fiscal year 2012-13, demonstrating its commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
