City Of MV Updates

Date:

City Council members on Tuesday began pre-budget discussions; recognized an outstanding Mission Viejo Nadadores diver; and received information about plans for the Oso Creek Water Treatment Plant and Mission Hospital.

The meeting kicked off the pre-budget discussion for fiscal years 2023-2025. The City adopted a balanced budget for FY 22/23 and ended the fiscal year last June with a $5 million operating surplus. Council Members shared their views about projects they want included as part of the process, which will entail subsequent meetings for the public to provide input.

In the presentation portion of the meeting, Council Members recognized Nadadores diver Anna Lemkin for her recent gold medal win at the FINA Junior World Championships as well as the results of the successful Konrad Reuland Charity Tennis/Pickleball Tournament and its benefits to our community.

In another presentation, Assistant City Manager Keith Rattay spoke about plans for the Santa Margarita Water District’s Oso Creek Water Treatment Plant and City Administrative/Storage Building. The former water treatment plant was one of the original plants in Orange County, and the new plant will treat a higher capacity of water more efficiently with a smaller footprint.

In other water district news, Santa Margarita Water District Director of External Relations Jim Leach gave an update about the recycled water main break at Marguerite and Mustang Run. As the City diligently reported, all lanes in both directions are now open and traffic was restored to normal operations.

Council Members also received an update from Providence Mission Hospital Chief Executive Seth Teigen about the hospital’s plans to expand.

The City Council normally meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Residents are encouraged to attend City Council meetings, which are streamed live on the City’s website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99.  Stay tuned to the City’s social media sites for up-to-date news and information.
