Youth Arts Education Workshops (FINAL CLASSES!)

Dates/Times: July 7 – August 29
Mondays – Fridays 11am & 1pm
Cost: $10 material fee/session

Bring out that creative spark in your young artist at the Youth Arts Classes this summer at the Festival of Arts. Kids will enjoy art classes taught by professional Festival artists in mixed-media, jewelry making, collage and more. Meanwhile, parents will have free time to view the artwork on display throughout the Festival grounds. Festival artists will also share some of their creative techniques in a fun and friendly environment that will inspire your kids to come back every week! Open to children ages 5 – 12. Reservations required. Art Talks: Lecture Series (FINAL EVENT!)
“Art of Documentary Photography”

Date: Thursday, August 28
Time: 12 – 1pm
Cost: Free with Festival admission

On August 28 from 12-1pm, Festival of Arts exhibitor Tom Lamb will lead a discussion on the impact of documentary photography in the world of fine art. Festival artists including Roger Bennett, Baldemar Fierro, Rob Gage, Bob Hansen, and Barbara White will join him in sharing insights on the ever-changing aspects of photography and how documentary photography has impacted social change. This will be the final Art Talk of the 2014 Festival of Arts season.

Art, Jazz, Wine & Chocolate (FINAL EVENT!)

Cost: $15 in addition to Festival admission

Chocolate, wine, and all that jazz sweetens up the Festival of Arts this summer! On Thursday nights, indulge your senses at the “Art, Jazz, Wine and Chocolate” series. Sample a wide variety of Kendall-Jackson wines expertly selected to compliment and enhance the nuanced flavor of high-end chocolates from XAN Confections. The Festival’s casual and classy outdoor setting, together with the soulful sounds of jazz surrounded by fine art, creates an ideal evening for friends, sweethearts, and family.

As a singer, Billy has opened for Donny Hathaway & Roberta Flack (‘70’s), Young Holt Unltd. (lead singer), performed in the musical ‘The Wiz’ (1st national tour) and musical ‘It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues’ (Geffen and San Diego Rep), and featured in ‘The Five Heartbeats’ (lead vocalist). He has performed in L.A. clubs such as H.O.M.E., Casa Del Mar Hotel, Café Cordiale, Jazz at the Vic, Vibrato, Shutters at the Beach, Spazio and at private events, large and small, in and out of the country.Billy’s glorious singing voice was heard every week on the television series, ‘Boston Legal’ – from the theme song right thru to the end of each and every episode, from the premiere in 2004 to the finale in 2009.

Concerts are free; Wine and Chocolate pairings (21 and over) are $15 in addition to Festival of Arts admission. Limited seating available in reserved section for an additional $25 per person by calling (800) 487-3378.

Jazz on the Green (CLOSING DAY!)

Poncho Sanchez and his Latin Jazz Band

Date: Saturday, August 30
Time: 1 – 3pm
Cost: Free with Festival admission

The 2014 Jazz on the Green series concludes on the final day of the Festival of Arts on Saturday, August 30th from 1 – 3pm with a not-to-be-missed performance by jazz legend Poncho Sanchez and his Latin Jazz Band. For more than three decades as both a leader and a sideman, conguero Poncho Sanchez has stirred up a fiery stew of straight-ahead jazz, gritty soul music, and infectious melodies and rhythms from a variety of Latin American and South American sources.
