Celebrate Earth Day 2011 at the Ocean Institute

The Ocean Institute will join in the nationwide celebration of Earth Day on Saturday, April 23, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

Special activities for the weekend include:

• Learn how to track your carbon footprint.
• Discover the benefits of using California Native Plants in your garden.
• Perform experiments to learn how air pollution affects our oceans.
• Learn about the impact of pollution along the coast and throughout the ocean.
• Take a fun family hike through the Native Plant Garden along the seashore with an Ocean Institute naturalist.

There will also be fun eco-friendly crafts and other exciting hands-on activities for kids. The cost to participate is $6.50 for adults, $4.50 for children ages 4-12. Participate in a beach clean-up that morning, and receive free admission for the remainder of the day.

Founded in 1977, the Ocean Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to ocean preservation through education, setting the standard for educational excellence and serving as a leading resource for universities, museums, teachers and all others seeking to increase their knowledge of the ocean. The Ocean Institute is open to the general public on weekends, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Cost: $6.50 adults, $4.50 children (ages 4-12), Ocean Institute members free.
