Parent/Child Overnight Adventures At The Ocean Institute – Grunion Run Sleepover

DANA POINT, – The Ocean Institute is pleased to offer a variety of overnight adventures for children and parents. They include:
Grunion Run Sleepover – July 10, 7 p.m. – 8 a.m. the next day. Watch as this amazing fish comes up on the beach to spawn. Learn about grunion around a bonfire, followed by a late night as we try to see this curious fish. Sleepover on the tent-like sleeping deck. Children must be age 8 or older and accompanied by an adult. Cost $70.

Voyage to Avalon – July 11 & August 8, 5:30 p.m. – 5 p.m. the next day. Join the crew of the Spirit for a sunset dinner at sea during the overnight motor-transit to Catalina. In the morning, explore the charming town of Avalon and then sail the Spirit home; with the wind! Take part in traditions such as night-watch, story-telling, chantey singing and knot tying, as well as sailing. Children must be age 8 or older and accompanied by an adult. Cost $125.

Mysterious Lights – July 17 & 24, August 21, 4:30 p.m – 8 a.m. the next day. Learn about the fascinating world of bioluminescence in marine animals onboard the research vessel Sea Explorer. Children must be age 8 or older and accompanied by an adult. Cost $70.

Founded in 1977, the Ocean Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to ocean preservation through education, setting the standard for educational excellence and serving as a leading resource for universities, museums, teachers and all others seeking to increase their knowledge of the ocean. The Ocean Institute is open to the general public on weekends, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Cost: $6.50 adults, $4.50 children (ages 4-12), Ocean Institute members free.
